The Respiratory Therapist assesses and treats patients with breathing and cardiopulmonary disorders by administering respiratory therapies, managing ventilators and life-support equipment, and monitoring patient progress. The role involves working closely with healthcare teams to deliver safe, effective, and patient-centered respiratory care across various clinical settings.
Assess patients’ respiratory status and perform diagnostic tests to determine appropriate treatment plans.
- Administer respiratory therapies, medications, and oxygen, and manage ventilators and life-support equipment.
- Monitor patient responses to treatment and adjust care as needed in collaboration with physicians.
- RRT,
- Experience in Adult Critical Care and Emergency Department settings, including rapid assessment and intervention.
Proficient in airway management: intubation assistance, extubation, oral and nasal airway placement, suctioning (ETT, NT), sputum specimen collection, and tracheostomy care and management.
Skilled in respiratory therapy delivery systems including handheld nebulizers, bag-valve-mask, ET tubes, T-piece, trach collar, and High-Flow Nasal Cannula (HFNC).
Advanced knowledge of noninvasive and mechanical ventilation including BiPAP, CPAP, ventilator troubleshooting (high-pressure alarms), and weaning patients from mechanical ventilation.
Demonstrated experience providing respiratory care in long-term care environments.
