As an Inpatient Pharmacy Technician, you will play a vital link in moving medications throughout the facility to enhance patient care. You will join a team that empowers every caregiver to make valuable contributions to patient-focused care, teaching and research activities. This team embraces a positive attitude and respects and supports one another to provide the best care possible. A caregiver in this position works 7:00am - 3:30pm and 7:30am - 4:00pm. A caregiver who excels in this role will:
  • Prepare medications through selecting, labeling, repacking, non-sterile compounding and sterile compounding.
    • Deliver medications to the appropriate storage locations in an accurate and timely manner.
      • Maintain accurate and appropriate inventories of medications and supplies and complete inventory audits, such as cycle counts and nursing unit inspections.
        • Maintain a safe and clean work area by complying with procedures, rules and regulations, and document regulatory requirements such as temperature logs, scheduled activities and training.
          • Use information systems, technology and automation to complete assigned tasks.
            • Assist with the training of pharmacy caregivers and students.
            Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
            • A high school diploma or GED
              • Upon hire, you must be a Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) through the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) or the National Healthcare Association (NHA)
                • Upon hire, it is required to hold an active registration through the Ohio Board of Pharmacy (OBOP) as either a Certified Pharmacy Technician, Registered Pharmacy Technician, or Pharmacy Technician Trainee
                  • Caregivers with active Pharmacy Technician Trainee or Registered Pharmacy Technician registrations are required to update their registration to a Certified Pharmacy Technician registration with the OBOP within 6 months
                    • Can perform algebraic calculations necessary for the preparation of extemporaneous compounds
                    Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
                    • Six months of hospital experience

Physical Requirements:
  • Typical physical demands include ability to perform the job while standing, walking, reaching, stretching and sitting for prolonged periods; manual dexterity sufficient to perform computer, dispensing, and compounding.
