Senior Trial Attorney – Litigation Defense Hybrid | New York City J. Katz & Partners is representing a respected New York litigation firm in the search for an experienced Senior Trial Attorney to join its defense-side civil litigation practice. The firm handles high-exposure personal injury and civil defense matters, including premises liability, construction accident defense, New York Labor Law cases, and general negligence, on behalf of institutional and public-sector clients. This role is designed for a seasoned defense trial attorney who can step into an active docket immediately and lead matters from inception through trial with minimal ramp-up. Key Responsibilities Take ownership of defense-side civil litigation matters, including personal injury cases, from early case assessment through trial Defend claims involving premises liability, construction accidents, NY Labor Law §§ 200, 240(1), and 241(6), and other high-exposure negligence matters Manage all phases of litigation, including pleadings, discovery, depositions, motion practice, settlement negotiations, and trials Work closely with expert witnesses in areas such as biomechanics, accident reconstruction, medical causation, and forensics Advise clients on liability exposure, trial risk, and strategic resolution Serve as a senior member of the litigation team, mentoring junior attorneys and contributing to a collaborative, trial-oriented culture Qualifications JD from an accredited law school Active New York State Bar admission 5+ years of hands-on defense-side civil litigation experience Demonstrated experience handling personal injury defense matters, including Labor Law and premises liability cases Strong courtroom presence with meaningful trial and hearing experience Proven ability to manage an active defense docket independently Excellent writing, advocacy, and strategic judgment Plaintiff-side experience considered only where there is substantial, recent defense-side trial work ️ The position includes an initial 1–2 week onboarding period in the firm's Mineola office to align on active matters, litigation strategy, and firm practices.
