Position Title: Intern - Environmental Health and Safety Location of Position: United StatesWisconsinSturgeon Bay Business Group: Fincantieri Bay Shipbuilding Department: Environmental Health & Safety Position Type: Internship; Temporary; Non-Exempt Reports To: Environmental Health & Safety Manager Position Summary: This position is responsible for supporting the Environmental Health & Safety function at our Sturgeon Bay, WI shipyard. Significant heavy manufacturing takes place both in several fab shops, as well as on the waterfront across our vast, 63-acre facility. The successful candidate will support the 1,000+ working men and woman on our waterfront by passionately pursuing innovative and effective safety solutions that focus primarily on employee wellbeing, manufacturing efficiency and environmental awareness Detailed Description:
  • Provide general support of the EHS department.
  • Promote and assist production with embracing a proactive safety culture.
  • Observe and evaluate workplace environments, equipment, or practices to ensure compliance with company safety standards as well as all local, state and federal guidelines.
  • Provide workers compensation support.
  • First level support for documenting incidents to identify cause and determine detailed proactive measures to prevent such instances in the future.
  • Support EHS team in order to analyze and recommend measures to help protect workers from potentially hazardous work methods, processes, or materials.
  • Provide support for safety training or education programs and demonstrate the use of safety equipment.
  • Working with onsite medical clinic.
  • Provide support for new-employee and contractor health and safety orientations, and participate in the development of materials for these presentations.
  • Inspect specified areas to ensure the presence of fire prevention equipment, safety equipment, or first-aid supplies.
  • The ability to handle minor medical treatment and properly triage minor medical injuries or industrial incidents.
  • Provide support for environmental spill prevention and response.
  • Assist with OSHA, WIDNR, and Coast Guard inspections.
  • Break down of time: 50% field support / 50% office support.
  • Additional projects as assigned.
  • Ability and willingness to engage in highly energetic pursuits on the waterfront.
  • Maintain a commitment to and promote the Quality and Environmental, Health & Safety Policies.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • High School Diploma
  • Must have attained required credits and be considered to have obtained junior or senior level status in an accredited Occupational Health & Safety program
  • Valid Driver's License
  • Must have proficiency with Microsoft Office programs including: Word, Excel, Outlook, Access, and Power Point
