Peer Support Specialist

Assertive Community Treatment Team

Pay Range: $17 and up (Depending on Experience)

Riverbend Community Mental Health, Inc., one of the largest providers of community-based behavioral health services in New Hampshire, is seeking a full-time Peer Support Specialist to join our talented Assertive Community Treatment (ACT) team in our Community Support Program working with adults living with severe and persistent mental illness.

As a Peer Support Specialist, you'll work closely with clients, providing community-based, face-to-face intervention. The Peer Support Specialist provides expertise that clinical training cannot replicate. Peer Support Specialists are fully integrated team members who provide psycho-education and coaching. They also provide essential expertise and consultation to the entire team to promote a culture in which clients' points of view and preferences are recognized, understood, respected and integrated to ensure that client supports, treatment, rehabilitation, and community-based system of care are addressed.

Responsibilities:
Respond to an individual's needs in the home, community, or other natural environments.
Provide an advocacy role on the team; approach issues from a client perspective in order to promote recovery.
Promote treatment goals and stabilization while drawing from one's own lived experience in order to engage individuals.
Assess the individual's needs and identify necessary services and support.
Assist the individual with accessing services and support in a timely manner, either in person or by phone.
Provide, along with other ACT team members, interventions to avoid unnecessary hospitalization or incarceration.
Provide recovery-focused support and services to promote self-care, illness self-management, wellness, and recovery.
Requirements: A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
Relevant work experience and/or college-level education in the human service field is preferred.
A valid driver's license, personal vehicle, and auto insurance or access to a reasonable alternative are required.
Lived experience with a willingness to disclose information about personal recovery and successful management of mental health challenges is required.
Peer Support certification that is endorsed by the State of NH, or a willingness to pursue certification, is required.
Training in crisis intervention as a Peer Support Specialist is preferred.
