Position Description America Votes is seeking an experienced and strategic Deputy Campaigns Director, West to oversee the planning and engagement process of winning elections year-round in Arizona and Nevada and the development of strategies for electoral and issue priorities across the West. The Deputy Director will support state tables in Arizona and Nevada in the development, implementation, and analysis of state campaign plans, both advocacy and electoral with an emphasis on direct voter contact and education. Reporting to the Campaigns Director, the Deputy will also play a key role as America Votes expands its work on national electoral priorities that fall outside of its current core states. The Deputy will oversee a team of 8 - 12 staff, including senior-level state directors in Arizona and Nevada. The ideal candidate brings deep experience building winning independent expenditure campaigns, deep knowledge of coalition work, experience managing teams through change and is comfortable frequently switching between providing high-level strategic advice and developing complex spreadsheets. This is an incredible opportunity for an experienced electoral strategist and coalition leader with a passion for direct voter contact to drive America Votes' work in key states and elections across the West. Key Responsibilities Lead America Votes' infrastructure and program work in Arizona and Nevada, fostering the growth, sustainability, and effectiveness of state tables Oversee plans and programs in each cycle's top electoral priorities in the West Manage State Directors to goals, including development of campaign plans, field budgets (including voter contact and education), work plans and timelines, and campaign trainings Play a key role in America Votes' expansion of its work on electoral and issue priorities that fall outside of its current core states Support state teams with the development, implementation, and analysis of state campaign plans, with an emphasis on direct voter contact programs Build and maintain thoughtful, trusting relationships with partners, allies and stakeholders in the West Oversee a team of 8 - 12 staff Provide internal organizational leadership, managing and mentoring staff through change Lead the development and presentation of content for reports and presentations for a diverse audience of stakeholders Key Qualifications Minimum of 10 years of professional experience, including at least 5 years of organizational leadership and management of senior leaders Experience building winning independent expenditure campaign plans that use a suite of diverse, multiple tactics with a focus on direct voter contact Deep knowledge of the electoral landscape in the West and electoral experience in a high-profile, battleground state Superb interpersonal skills, the ability to lead through influence and an impressive history of forging strong relationships with multiple stakeholders Successful management of experienced leaders, including leading through organizational change Ability to set priorities and make tough, strategic decisions in an intense environment Demonstrated ability in managing and leading coalitions with multi-issue agendas Proven track record of leading programmatic work through a lens of racial equity Expertise in modern campaign tactics and the ability to pull a universe and evaluate the use of data and targeting in a campaign plan Compelling communication skills, including excellent writing and presentation skills Collaborative leadership style, low ego, spirit of service and a sense of humor People management experience with a unionized staff is a plus Location and Travel There is a preference for candidates residing in a Western state where America Votes currently has state operations, but other locations will be considered. The Deputy will need to be available during Pacific and Mountain time hours. The Deputy Campaigns Director should expect to travel 45-50% of their time. Compensation and Benefits The salary for this position is $150,000 annually and is non-negotiable.
