A K-12 district in Belton, SC, is seeking a dedicated Special Education Teacher to support students with moderate to severe disabilities in a self-contained classroom setting. This contract position spans the current school year, starting early February and concluding May 28, following the district calendar. The role involves working collaboratively in a team-teaching environment, serving a caseload of 9-11 students across kindergarten through 5th grade.
Key Responsibilities:
Provide specialized instruction tailored to students with moderate to severe disabilities in a self-contained classroom
Collaborate closely with a co-teacher in an adjacent room; manage two student groups rotating mid-day
Develop and implement individualized education plans, utilizing tools such as EDPlan (training provided if needed)
Supervise and coordinate with classroom assistants and a student teacher to maximize student engagement and learning
Maintain accurate records, monitor student progress, and communicate effectively with families and staff
Qualifications and Experience:
Current South Carolina Special Education teaching certification is required
Experience with K-5 grade levels is preferred
Familiarity or willingness to learn EDPlan software is desirable
Strong teamwork and communication skills to thrive in a collaborative classroom environment
Ability to manage a diverse caseload within a structured schedule
Work Schedule and Environment:
Monday through Friday, 7:30 AM to 3:00 PM, with a 30-minute lunch break (up to 37.5 hours per week)
Supportive classroom atmosphere with three assistants per room and an additional student teacher during spring term
Engaged caseload of approximately 20 students rotating between two rooms
