The Investor Services Business Risk Management Executive (IS BRME) is a trusted advisor to IS management and provides strategic leadership and oversight of the global risk governance framework within the IS First Line of Defense (FLOD). This role focuses on Commercial Office, Global Credit Finance, Alpha Platforms, Alpha Services, and Product Office business units (IS Business Units). Collaborating closely with Business Unit Heads and risk oversight functions, the IS BRME oversees adherence to corporate risk frameworks, regulatory requirements, alignment to business objectives, and compliance with internal governance standards. This position is accountable for maintaining a holistic view of the risk and control environment, identifying, assessing, mitigating, and monitoring key risks, serving as the senior escalation point for highrisk issues, and fostering a culture of risk excellence and proactive risk management. IS BRME is responsible for execution of a strategic transition of IS business risk management to a Global Target Operating Model by consolidating four independent business risk teams into a single unified organization, while maintaining specialized subject matter expertise and establishing a central shared support team. In addition to overall accountability for IS BRM program, this role is directly accountable for leading and executing on dedicated business risk responsibilities for the Product Office.
Risk Identification, Governance & Oversight
Responsible for execution of the IS Business Units risk and control programs, ensuring compliance with enterprise risk policies and standards, as well as effective identification, measurement, and management of risks.
Maintain accountability and collaboration across lines of defense to create and oversee a control environment that effectively mitigates key risks and be a catalyst for positive change and continuous improvement.
Provide leadership and oversight to a global team of risk professionals, ensuring clearly defined reporting structures, roles and responsibilities, levels of authority, objectives, development opportunities, and ongoing progress in relation to performance priorities.
Serve as co-chair or participate in Business Risk Committees (BRCs), ensuring governance and oversight for risk identification, assessment, and mitigation activities.
Maintain strong relationships with stakeholders across all three lines of defense to ensure transparency and compliance with relevant expectations.
Collaborate with the second and third lines of defense to maintain awareness of changes in the risk environment, risk appetite, and emerging material risks. Monitor the development of appropriate risk responses.
Champion enterprise risk culture initiatives.
Approve higher risk operational and business risk acceptance decisions. Review risk assessments to confirm their plausibility, estimated impact, and cost-benefit analysis. Confirm that risk acceptance is consistent with enterprise risk policies and regulatory requirements.
Oversee identification and management of emerging risks by reviewing regulatory developments, business change initiatives, and participation at risk forums, committees, and industry trade groups. Support interpretation and implementation of evolving risk management best practices and regulatory expectation
Risk Assessment & Assurance
Execute on uplift of control inventories across IS Business Units
Oversee Risk and Control Self-Assessments (RCSA) for relevant risk units, including the implementation of process RCSAs and adoption of updated risk registers and assessment methodologies.
Approve and execute the Annual IS BRM Assurance Plan, ensuring risk-based coverage of control testing and assurance reviews.
Oversee the validation of issues remediation and provide support during audits and regulatory examinations.
Policy & Standards Management
Ensure implementation and compliance with corporate policies, standards, and procedures.
Issue & Incident Management
Manage the identification, documentation, and resolution of risk issues.
Serve as the point of escalation for critical or highrated issues when remediation plans span reporting lines or do not progress within the required timeframe.
Business Engagement & Advisory
Serve as a trusted advisor to senior leadership on risk implications of strategic initiatives and operational changes. Apply business knowledge to ensure that control environment is commensurate with the risk taking activity.
Facilitate regulatory and industry interaction, while ensuring compliance with relevant requirements and providing prompt responses to all inquiries.
Ensure that a global team of risk advisors maintain robust business relationships, possess comprehensive subject matter expertise, and provide effective support to risk taking teams on matters related to the control environment.
Guide business teams in prioritizing time and resources to address highrisk issues.
Provide advice, guidance, and participate in risk committees and governance forums to influence enterprise risk posture.
Implement frameworks and remediation strategies for systemic risk issues.
Provide regular risk reporting to senior management and governance committees, including key risk indicators (KRIs) and assurance outcomes.
Identify unmitigated risks and implement effective, proportionate remediation measures.
Minimum 20 years experience in risk, compliance and/ or audit functions, preferably within a GSIB or financial services company
Comprehensive knowledge and understanding of risk and compliance management principles, operational risk frameworks, emerging trends and regulatory expectations
Demonstrated expertise in identifying and assessing regulatory, operational, and technology risks pertinent to financial services organizations. Experience in supporting robust control environments during product development initiatives is advantageous.
Executive level relationship management and communication skills
Proven ability to build, lead, motivate and manage successful teams. ability to make informed, risk optimized decisions under time pressure.
Knowledge of emerging technologies risks: AI, Digital, as well as information technology and cyber security. Experience with risks and controls for digital custody and tokenization a plus.
