Summary The Electrician position will be assigned to the In House Construction section at the Northern California Health Care System. The incumbent performs the duties of a journeyman electrician under the supervision of the Construction and Maintenance Foreman. The incumbent will be assigned tasks that involve both maintenance and repair of existing systems and installation of new work on minor (less than $2,500) projects. Responsibilities Major duties and responsibilities include, but not limited to: Performs installation, maintenance, and/or repair of utility systems (i.e., generators, switchgear, controls, circuit breakers) within a facility. Maintains controls for equipment in industrial, institutional, office, and residential buildings. Performs work under own responsibility in installing, maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing electrical wiring systems and associated fixtures, controls, and equipment in industrial, institutional, office, and residential buildings. Works from building plans, blueprints, wiring diagrams, engineering drawings, and electrical maintenance and repair manuals to plan and layout the routing, placement, type, size, gauge, balance, load, continuity, and safe operation of electrical lines, circuits, systems, equipment and controls. Determines and places distribution panels, boxes, fittings, and connections and installs wiring, couplings, conduit, relays, fixtures, transformers and other electrical devices. The work involves installing, modifying, repairing, and maintaining electrical lines, circuits, systems and associated fixtures, controls, and equipment. This position completes installations, modifications, and repairs, loads and tests systems, circuits, equipment, and controls with little or no check during the progress or upon completion of work. Makes repairs on large and small systems where any numbers and types of pneumatic and electrical controls and relays are required to make the system operate at peak efficiency. Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 7:00 am to 3:30 pm Position Description Title/PD#: Electrician/PD08096A Physical Requirements: Makes repairs and installations from ladders, scaffolding, platforms, and other hard to reach places. Frequently lifts and carries tools, equipment, and parts weighing up to 20 pounds and less often, up to 40 pounds. Must have the ability to interpret and apply the National Electrical Code, The Joint Commission for the Environment of Care Standards, local and state codes, building plans, blueprints, wiring diagrams, and engineering drawings, and to use trade formulas to calculate common properties, e.g., voltage, voltage drop and current capability in series and parallel circuits, resistance, inductance, capacitance, power factor, current flow, and temperature and length in single and multiple raceway conduits, gutters, and cable trays. EXPERIENCE: A specific length of training and experience is not required, but you must show evidence of training or experience of sufficient scope and quality of your ability to do the work of this position. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. HCP also includes VHA personnel providing home-based care to Veterans and drivers and other personnel whose duties put them in contact with patients outside VA medical facilities.
