Are you a skilled finance leader with deep expertise in construction industry accounting? We are seeking a Director of Construction Accounting to join our team. This high-visibility role will be instrumental in overseeing project accounting for complex construction initiatives and delivering actionable insights to executive leadership. Key Responsibilities: - Oversee and review project accounting, job costing, and work-in-progress schedules (WIPS) for large-scale construction projects across multiple business units. - Assess and analyze risks from both accounting/finance and operational perspectives, including financial reporting and working capital management. - Develop early warning indicators for projects at risk of increased costs or unbilled receivables. - Review contract accounting revenue recognition, change orders, and claims, ensuring compliance with GAAP—expertise in long-term construction contract accounting is required. - Collaborate with business unit and project teams—including external advisors and consultants—to manage claims, disputes, and project status. - Prepare and review technical accounting memos supporting revenue recognition for change orders and claims at the project accounting level. - Act as a liaison between project teams and executive management, providing updates on project financials and risks. - Perform cost variance analysis and identify financial trends to optimize project profitability. - Lead quarterly business unit performance reviews and produce key financial reports, delivering actionable recommendations to senior leadership. - Participate in estimate meetings and validate estimate-at-completion (EAC) and work in progress (WIPS) calculations. Qualifications: - Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, or related field required - CPA required (preference for candidates with public accounting background). - 7+ years of experience in accounting/finance within the construction industry, preferably in large construction companies and Big 4 public accounting firms. - Proven track record managing project accounting, job costing, and WIPS in major construction environments. - Strong understanding of GAAP and technical accounting concepts relevant to long-term construction contracts. - Outstanding organizational, project management, and communication skills. - Collaborative, detail-oriented, and able to deliver results under strict deadlines. - Ability to travel as needed (generally under 25%).
