Under limited supervision of the Detective Sergeant of Investigations and/or the Investigations Captain, this position is responsible for investigating crimes in the County. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, assisting other agencies, District Attorney's offices, and officers with investigations and filing the case with the District Attorney's office for prosecution. Interview and interrogate persons to prepare investigation reports and compile documentation to complete the case for referral to the District Attorney's office for prosecution.

~ Work with the District Attorney's office in preparing the case for trial. Work with County and District courts as required. Instruct Deputy Sheriffs in crime scene processing, evidence collection, and reporting.

~ Perform administrative duties such as serving on the hiring boards and conducting internal investigations.

~ Assist the Detentions Division with high-risk inmate transports/court security.

~ Teach/train in specific specialty areas related to investigations and evidence collection/management.

~ Video and audio dubbing as requested.

~ Actively engage the community and build relationships with community members, co-workers, and colleagues

~ serve warrants and subpoenas; conduct searches and seizures involving people, vehicles and structures

~ Testify in court

~ Conducts surveillance operations and gathers intelligence, may work undercover.

~ Attends post-mortem examinations to obtain fingerprints, nail scrapings; Conducts records queries from a variety of local stages

~ Manage and register all sex offenders in unincorporated Clear Creek County, including obtained court conviction records, obtained relevant police reports, determining the offender's registration requirements, updates and modifying existing sex offender's information in CCIC/NCIC within three days, coordinates house check operations, inactivates a re-locating sex offender's records, tracks all sex offender's reregistration dates, coordinates with the Colorado Bureau of Investigation, law enforcement and the public to locate unregistered sex offenders, coordinates and participates in community notification meetings for sexually


High School diploma plus Colorado Police Academy Certification plus courses in advanced crime scene investigations.
An essential aspect of this level is the creativity and innovation required to enhance the mere application of skill. Such a level is generally acquired by at least four (4) years of law enforcement experience. Experience must have provided knowledge of local, state, and federal laws, gathering, preserving, and processing evidence, photography, and interrogation techniques. Must be proficient in all skills taught in the Police Academy. Must have knowledge of proper investigative procedures and procedures for working with the District Attorney's office and courts.
Must be proficient in all skills taught in the Police Academy; Must be able to read, write, and speak the English language.
Knowledge of constitutional and case law as related to law enforcement practices.
Knowledge of law enforcement principles, procedures, techniques, and equipment.
Knowledge of computers used by the department.
Ability to communicate effectively and give instructions both verbally and in writing.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with superiors, subordinates, court officials, other agency officials, inmates, officers of other law enforcement agencies, and the general public.
Ability to perform law enforcement duties requiring good judgment under pressure and good physical condition.
Proficiency in the use of firearms to the department standard.
Proficiency and certification in specialized areas, including, but not limited to, arrest control, taser deployment, SWAT and hostage negotiation, domestic violence investigations, sexual assaults, etc.
Frequent contact with the general public, suspects, arrestees, inmates, co-workers, supervisors, court officials, and other agencies.
POSSIBLE HEALTH RISKS SPECIFIC TO THIS POSITION:
This position has been determined to be an EXTREME exposure risk to 'biohazards' associated with blood-borne pathogens HIV (aids), HAV (Hepatitis A) virus, HBV (hepatitis B) virus, and air-borne transmissions of TB (tuberculosis). Members are required by Department policy to use protective equipment and clothing. The County provides inoculation of HAV, HBV (Testing for TB), Chickenpox, Tdap (Tetanus, Diptheria, and pertussis), Meningococcal, MMR (Measles, Mumps & Rubella), and Influenza. Some vaccinations are only required once in a lifetime, and you may be required to show documentation of the vaccine. Must possess adequate physical strength to subdue and control unruly and resisting subjects and to drag or carry an unconscious subject a distance of fifty feet across a smooth level floor. Must be able to climb and descend stairs quickly and repeatedly throughout a work shift, as well as stand, sit, kneel, bend or stoop for prolonged periods.
Work is performed in circumstances involving hazards such as crimes, accidents, fires, assaults, biohazards transmitted by subjects, and disturbances, which may be threatening to life or cause bodily harm. Is assigned to work schedules requiring work on rotating shifts, weekends, and holidays.
