For more information, visit VPU Context The WBG Digital and AI Vertical Vice Presidency is responsible for delivering the right public and private sector solutions to our operational teams and clients. Its mandate is to produce scalable impact: guiding digital connectivity, verifiable credentials, and other AI interventions across agriculture, health, infrastructure, manufacturing, and tourism. The VPUs objectives include replicating and scaling effective solutions, enhancing thoughtleadership, and delivering timely knowledge to client teams. WBG Director, Access Solutions and Impact The WBG Digital and AI Vertical is led by a Vice President and consists of four departments: Access, DPI and Services, Applications, Data and AI. Directors/Managers of each department report to the Vice President. The Access Solutions and Impact Department contains 30+ staff and will set the strategic direction for digital access and affordability over the next five years. Duties and Accountabilities The WBG Director will lead a multidisciplinary team across IBRD/IDA, IFC, and MIGA, embodying WBG leadership values and ensuring the unit delivers on commitments. Key Responsibilities Strategic Leadership Lead a new WBG approach for Solutions and Impact in Digital Access and Affordability, driving organizational change. Coordinate sector/thematic/industry strategies with the Manager for Policy and Regulations. Provide vision for scaling and replication solutions that unlock privatesector financing. Guide the deployment of new operational solutions and platforms. Represent the VPU on WBG corporate strategic issues. Operational Delivery Support pipeline and project development across Regions. Produce, curate, manage, and share knowledge with operational teams and partners. Oversee delivery of advisory services to public and private sector clients. Relationship Management Foster partnership and trust among internal and external stakeholders. Coordinate with the Verticals Partnership Team. Strategically engage seniorlevel relationships with governments and the private sector. Global Engagement Lead global advocacy and partnership initiatives on digital access and affordability. Position the WBG as a global leader on solutions and impact. Internal Engagement and Capacity Building Support a culture of knowledge delivery and client capacity building. Empower teams to develop client capacity and facilitate southsouth learning. Improve quality of client work and contestability across WBG. Knowledge Management and Communications Encourage innovation and knowledge sharing. Support country teams in applying global knowledge. Disseminate best practices and lessons learned. Lead communication of engagement results. Build strategic analytical and knowledge programs. Collect, curate, validate, and disseminate access and affordability data. Design and implement training and capacitybuilding programs. People/Talent Management Model leadership values and support highperforming teams. Drive technical excellence and learning environments. Lead management teams and coordinate talent management. Chair talent reviews and career development meetings. Secure a diverse pipeline for technical and managerial leadership. Resource Management Manage the departments budget and ensure costeffective use of resources. Ensure delivery of work program through risk management and fiduciary controls. Selection Criteria The ideal candidate is a seasoned executive with extensive experience in digital connectivity and infrastructure strategy, technology, and financing. They have demonstrated leadership in complex public and private organizations and possess credibility to influence government and privatesector stakeholders. Required Qualifications and Experience Advanced degree (Master's or PhD) in engineering, technology, or MBA related to networks, data centers, or devices; 15+ years of progressive responsibility. Recognized leader in digital access and affordability strategy within or outside the WBG. Demonstrated seniorlevel engagement with governments, private sector, and international stakeholders. Proven leadership of scalable technology solutions and strategic influence. Fieldbased experience across regions with deep familiarity of WBG operations. Ability to coordinate across sectors and stakeholders to build consensus. Experience managing multiinstitutional portfolios with strategy, staffing, budgets, and performance oversight.
