Also, to perform duties advising County Departments and Commissioners Court in legal matters. SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Reports Directly to the County Attorney. SUPERVISION EXERCISED: Direct Reports - Deputy Clerk(s), Investigator Number of Direct Reports - 2 to 4 MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS, EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE Bachelor's Degree JD from accredited law school License to practice law from the Texas State Bar Clear and valid Texas driver's license with a satisfactory driving record PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS, EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE Prior prosecutorial experience Experience in civil law or local government KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES Have basic background knowledge of pertinent federal, state, and local laws, regulations, and codes Learn and correctly interpret and apply the policies and procedures of the function to which assigned Understand the organization and operation of the county and of outside agencies as necessary to perform assigned responsibilities Compile, maintain, and update files and records Organize files Manage time wisely Maintain and schedule a calendar of events and activities for an assigned area Operate and use modern office equipment including a computer and related software Work independently in the absence of supervision Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work, including but not limited to other law enforcement agencies ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Duties may include but not limited to the following: Handle Class A and B misdemeanor cases from intake though appeal as assigned by the County Attorney Handle all Class C misdemeanors from intake through appeal Handle Motions to Adjudicate and Motions to Revoke from filing through appeal in Class B and A misdemeanors as assigned by the County Attorney Handle Protective Order cases, mental commitments, Adult and Child Protective Services and Environmental Cases Handle Juvenile cases from intake through appeal as assigned by the County Attorney Handle all Bond Forfeiture Cases from intake through appeal Attend and conduct court hearings as needed to perform all of the above duties. Conduct research on various legal issues and questions as they arise in order to provide authority for the position or advice given to the various County Departments Advise all law enforcement as needed Advise County Departments as needed Advise Commissioners Court as needed and attend Commissioners Court meetings as directed by the County Attorney. Maintain calendar and answer telephone calls from the public as needed Be on call outside of regular office hours for law enforcement and other County Departments Travel to seminars for Continuing Legal Education requirements Maintain a working knowledge of property, oil and gas, and contract law Keep current in all areas of the law in which the County Attorneys office performs services Review and respond to open records requests for all County departments Request Texas Attorney General opinions for all County departments Prosecutor for all truancy cases in Washington County PHYSICAL AND MENTAL REQUIREMENTS In order to successfully achieve the goals of the County and Department, the prosecutor must meet the following physical and mental requirements with or without reasonable accommodation. Make and use repetitive hand motions over an extended period, as when typing or operating a motor vehicle. 6. Move between floors of a multi-story building. 7. Work under pressure and under deadlines in order to respond to co-workers and the public. 8. Sit, stand, move around, bend, reach, stretch, push and pull and remain upright for extended periods of time in one room. Must be able to lift or move objects weighing as much as 35 pounds. The activities and the estimated amounts of time required per day for each are shown below. The estimations below may not sum to one-hundred (100) percent.
