Job Description Stamford Health is looking for a Per Diem Pharmacy Technician I. The Pharmacy Technician I role performs a variety of technical, clerical, inventory, and delivery tasks to support the Department of Pharmacy in the provision of pharmacy services with an emphasis on accuracy and patient safety. MAJOR ACCOUNTABILITIES/CRITICAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
1.Pharmacy technicians work under the direct supervision of a licensed pharmacist and all medication related activities must be checked and approved by a pharmacist.
2.Demonstrates flexibility in working rotating day, evening and overnight shifts as assigned.
3.Manages Pyxis inventory by performing accurate drug selection, refilling, loading, stock rotation and expiration date entry of medications in the Pyxis machines.
4.Ensures appropriate and secure handling and management of controlled substances from receipt to delivery per established department policies/procedures and government regulations.
5.Ensures removal of expired/damaged products from pyxis machines, medication rooms and pharmacy inventory in a timely fashion
6.Assists pharmacists in providing timely pharmacy services including but not limited to drug delivery, resolution of Pyxis and Talyst problems, urgent patient care needs, and routine patient specific unit dose medication selection.
7.Prepares and fills all floor stock requests, emergency code trays, EMS needs and various medication kits.
8.Performs controlled substance inventory, reviews controlled drug utilization reports and other various requirements per departmental policies.
9.Maintains refrigerator, freezer and room temperature logs per departmental and regulatory requirements.
10.Performs billing/charging duties as required.
11.Performs medication room and pharmacy inventory inspections monthly according to department policies/procedures.
12.Receives, inventories, and puts away the wholesaler medication order with accuracy and in compliance with USP Hazardous Drugs, 340B regulations and Verify on Receipt software.
13.Understands the importance of barcode and NDC accuracy when scanning medications into the electronic health record upon receipt.
14.Accurately packages medications into unit of use containers using Talyst/Swisslog packager ensuring compliance with accurate NDC and bar code regulatory requirements. Documents all packaging and repackaging activity appropriately.
15.Ensures all unit of use medications have appropriate bar code affixed to maintain accurate inventory.
16.Communicates effectively with pharmacists, nursing, and other healthcare professionals to provide optimal pharmacy services and to uphold the values of the pharmacy department by creating positive working relationships and demonstrating standards of excellence.
17.Manages, operates, triages, and performs preventative maintenance on pharmacy equipment safely and correctly. Performs other related duties as assigned or requested in order to maintain a high level of service.
Completes required continuous training and education, including department specific requirements.
Demonstrates professional work behavior by following Service Standards and Success factors. Complies with departmental organizational policies and procedures and adheres to external agency requirements. 18.Performs purchasing duties in compliance with 340B and Drug Supply Chain Security Act requirements and exercises fiscal responsibility.
19.Understands and maintains compliance with HIPAA regulations.
20.Participates in departmental initiatives as required.
21.Completes all assigned competencies, Oracle learning activities and other required training courses.
22.Demonstrates collaborative approach in ensuring adequate inventory of medications and supplies to provide seamless pharmacy services.
23.Prepares extemporaneous non-sterile preparations Qualifications 1.High school graduate or equivalent required. 2.Pharmacy technician state registration (CT license) required. 3.National pharmacy technician certification (CPhT) required.
