Grossing Technician – Job Description Job Summary The Grossing Technician assists the anatomic pathologist in the gross dissection of surgical specimens and biopsies. This position is responsible for accessioning, grossing, and routine processing of tissue received from surgical procedures while ensuring accuracy, quality, and compliance with laboratory standards. Supervisory Responsibilities None Essential Duties & Responsibilities Ensure proper accessioning and labeling of tissue samples. Process paperwork associated with accessioning, reporting, and documentation. Prepare reagents for tissue processing and routine slide staining. Perform gross evaluation of biopsy and surgical specimens, including appropriate dissections and descriptions of findings. Collaborate with Pathologists and the Department Supervisor to develop and maintain grossing procedures. Perform routine maintenance, calibration, and cleaning of laboratory equipment. Follow all laboratory quality control policies and document QC activities, instrument calibrations, and maintenance. Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment. Dispose of biohazardous and chemically hazardous materials properly; prepare solutions and reagents according to standard procedures. Adhere to personnel policies related to scheduling, attendance, evaluations, safety training, and continuing education. Participate in regulatory inspection readiness and onsite inspections. Communicate effectively with coworkers, management, medical directors, and other internal departments. Follow internal controls, reporting structures, and compliance standards. Required Skills & Abilities Ability to perform high-complexity tasks accurately. Consistently delivers quality work within required timeframes. Demonstrates strong knowledge and proficiency in laboratory procedures and environments. Shows commitment to organizational core values and promotes them within the laboratory team. Education & Experience Requirements Bachelor’s degree in chemical, physical, biological, or clinical laboratory science, medical technology, or a related field from an accredited institution ; OR Associate’s degree in a laboratory science (chemical or biological science) or medical laboratory technology from an accredited institution . Physical Requirements Regularly required to talk and hear. Frequently required to stand, walk, use hands to finger, handle, or feel, and reach with hands and arms. Occasionally required to lift office products and supplies up to 20 pounds . Work Hours & Travel Full-time position No travel required
