**JOB SUMMARY**

VP Patient Care - Temple is responsible for overseeing, planning, and directing the nursing practice and clinical services for Baylor Scott and White Health (BSWH). Provides clinical leadership across all patient care settings, both inpatient and outpatient, within assigned area of responsibility which may include one or more hospitals, clinics, or other BSWH healthcare facilities. May oversee the operations of patient care service areas which could include social services, ambulatory care, cardiology, respiratory, rehabilitation, pharmacy, emergency medicine, and other nursing or clinical support functions. Establishes and communicates the clinical strategic goals and objectives for assigned nursing units or clinical areas in accordance with the BSWH overall patient care goals and objectives. Develops and implements clinical protocols, nursing policies and procedures, new patient care models, and nursing quality improvement initiatives. Maintains and monitors clinical operational efficiency, standards of care, and patient service delivery levels. Ensures high quality patient care delivery in a cost-effective manner. Negotiates interdepartmental resources and communicates with other BSWH departments to ensure effective and efficient delivery of patient care. Collaborates with operations leadership (CEO), physician leadership (CMO), and other senior leadership for assigned area of responsibility to deliver patient care with a focus on ensuring high quality patient outcomes, improving patient experience, and achieving service excellence in healthcare.

This position oversees the Acute Care and Progressive Care Units at the Magnet-designated Level I Academic Trauma Center: Baylor Scott & White Medical Center Temple.

An entity Vice President (VP) develops strategy and business plans for one or more business units. Business unit may include a level of smaller entity vice presidents (e.g., small hospitals, clinics, etc.). Leads strategy execution, identifies resourcing needs, and provides guidance for significant tactical decisions. Focuses on current-year operations and participates in establishing multi-year strategies and business plans. Erroneous decisions at this level tend to have a long-term negative effect on the success of the organization. Leads and directs a single business unit or region. Typically directs multiple levels of subordinate directors and/or managers covering varied disciplines and skill levels. Has managerial accountability for staffing and budgets for a large span of control (at least 2 managers/directors). Exercises wide latitude in determining objectives and approaches to critical assignments. Responsible for executing a portion of the business strategy.

**ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS**

- Oversees clinical patient care services for BSWH Temple.

- Develops and implements short and long-range nursing plans and priorities aligned with BSWH mission, values, and business objectives.

- Advises and collaborates with clinical departments, medical staff, and other leadership on nursing activities and decisions that impact the quality of patient care, patient safety, and patient satisfaction.

- Creates and leads a nursing environment that promotes a collaborative nursing practice and excellence in patient care, patient safety, nursing education, and clinical research.

- Leads the development and implementation of nursing policies, programs, and initiatives and ensures consistency in standards of nursing practice across all clinical settings.

- Evaluates current Nursing practices and patient care delivery models to continually improve the quality, appropriateness, and efficiency of patient care.

- Promotes and facilitates a multidisciplinary approach to patient care and coordination of care among clinical disciplines.

- Leads the development and implementation of clinical quality and patient safety initiatives, programs, and activities.

- Develops and implements quality and utilization standards for patient care services to ensure coordinated plans of treatment, delivery of services that meet patient needs, and efficient and cost-effective patient care.

- Ensures nursing services are compliant with all applicable laws and regulatory requirements, including Joint Commission.

**KEY SUCCESS FACTORS**

- Bachelor's degree in nursing or related field required. Master's degree strongly preferred.

- 5+ years of nursing experience in an acute care environment, ideally an academic trauma center

- 1+ years of experience in a leadership role.

- Registered Nurse license required.

- Experience collaborating across multiple departments and clinical disciplines within a large, complex healthcare organization preferred.

- Excellent problem-solving and critical thinking skills.

- Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal skills, with strong presentation skills.

- Familiarity with Magnet and/or Pathways to Excellence designation

**MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS**

- Bachelors degree required; Masters strongly preferred

- 5 years of experience
