CURRENT VACANCIES : Three (3) full-time, permanent positions (12 mos/year, 8 hrs/day), with full benefits, at the Facilities Maintenance Department. Work assignments may be in various locations within the district boundaries (Glendale, La Crescenta or Montrose). The eligibility list generated from this recruitment may be used to fill future vacancies within its one-year validity period. Positions in this classification start at the fourth step of the salary range. Examples of Duties Note: A comprehensive list of duties and qualifications for this classification is available on our website: -Mixes and matches paint. -Applies paint, varnishes, stains, lacquers, and enamels to building interiors and exteriors, furniture, and equipment. -Applies paints by brush, roller, or airless spray gun to a variety of surfaces. -Does line striping of courts, parking lots, and lanes. -Does stencil painting of curbs, roads, signs, and doors. -Erects scaffolding and removes or covers objects to protect them from spattered paint. -Prepares surfaces by scraping, sanding, sealing, or washing, and by puttying and patching holes and cracks. -Cleans brushes and sees that tools and equipment are properly maintained. -Requisitions painting supplies. -Performs related work as required. Employment Standards Minimum Requirements : Experience: -Five years of varied painting experience with at least one year at the journey level. License or Certificate: -Possession of a valid State of California Class C driver's license. Desirable: -Written and oral proficiency in a second language. Class Qualifications : Knowledge of: -Methods, materials, and equipment used in the painting trades. -Basic qualities of various paints and sealers used for school plant purposes and their adaptability and uses in specific situations. Ability to: -Mix and match paints, blend, harmonize, and contrast colors. -Apply paints by brush, roller, or spray gun. -Use and care for painting tools. -Prepare and work from ladders and scaffolds. -Understand and carry out oral and written instructions. -Be insured at standard vehicle liability and property damage insurance rates and maintain insurability. Salary: The beginning salary is shown on each examination announcement. New employees start at the first step. Employees with satisfactory service receive salary increases upon completion of their probationary period and at one-year intervals thereafter, up to the maximum rate. Holidays: Regular classified employees are entitled to pay for authorized holidays, provided they were in a paid status during any portion of the working day immediately preceding or succeeding the holiday. Sick Leave: One day of sick leave earned per month, accumulation is unlimited. Based on that evaluation, a limited number of applicants whose qualifications best meet the current needs of the district will be invited to participate in the next step of the examination process. The examination process will consist of one or more related test parts covering any subject matter appropriate to the duties of the position. Qualified applicants will be advised of the test components and weights prior to the administration of the first test part. Eligibility List: Candidates successfully completing all phases of the application and examination procedure will be ranked on the appropriate eligibility list according to their total examination scores. This list is normally in effect for one year. Classification: When a vacant position is to be filled, the top three reachable ranks from the eligibility list are contacted for employment interviews. The supervisor of the vacant position will interview those candidates and may make a selection from any one of them. Depending on the vacancy, current employees in the same classification who have a transfer request on file, may also be interviewed. New employees must serve a six-month or one-year probationary period, depending on the classification involved. Fingerprint Requirement: California state law requires that all classified employees be fingerprinted. Candidates are responsible for paying the fees. Certificate of Tuberculosis Examination: New employees must furnish proof that within the last 60 days they have had a Mantoux tuberculin skin test. Physical Examination: As a condition of employment, all prospective new hires must receive District approval relating to their fitness to work based on a physical examination and laboratory tests, which include a urinalysis. Mandatory Child Abuse Reporting Training (AB1432): As a state requirement, all prospective employees of the district are required to complete the Mandated Reported Educators Training course, prior to their start date of employment. Veterans Preference: Five additional points of credit are added in entry-level examinations to the final passing score of qualified veterans showing 30 days or more service during time of war (10 points for disabled veterans) upon presentation of proof of veterans' status (Form DD-214).
