We've been exclusively retained with a Healthtech company based in SF who are seeking a Director of Software Engineering to lead its software engineering team. This is an opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge healthcare solutions that provide individuals with valuable insights into inherited disease risks.
About the Role
The Director of Engineering will work closely with the CTO and Product Managers to design and oversee the execution of scalable software systems. This role requires both technical expertise and leadership to manage backend engineering teams, ensuring projects are executed efficiently from concept to delivery.
Key Responsibilities
Collaborate with stakeholders to plan projects, define dependencies, and establish timelines.
Provide technical leadership and oversee the day-to-day execution of engineering projects.
Manage backend engineering teams, including hiring, mentoring, and performance evaluations.
Maintain and upgrade systems in a regulated environment, ensuring security and reliability.
Oversee integrations with external partners and internal systems.
Time allocation: 60% management, 30% technical leadership, 10% hands-on coding.
Skills & Experience
Expertise in Python, Django, REST APIs, Linux, system design, and AWS.
Strong background in modern software development practices, including unit testing, CI/CD, DevOps, logging, and monitoring.
Experience with React, Terraform, Kubernetes, networking, and Docker is a plus.
Familiarity with biotech or genetic testing environments is highly desirable.
Ability to thrive in a fast-paced startup environment and balance quick solutions with production-grade implementations.
Excellent communication, organization, and experience with agile development practices.
