The Associate General Counsel (AGC) will handle a wide range of risk and compliance matters across the organization’s clinical and non‑clinical departments, including Medical and Nursing Services, People & Culture, Finance, Information Technology, Research, Real Property Management, Development, and External Affairs.
The AGC reports directly to the General Counsel and provides high‑level administrative and organizational support to the Office of the General Counsel. In addition, the AGC collaborates with the General Counsel to develop and improve systems for knowledge management, project tracking, contract review, and other critical initiatives.
Respond to legal and compliance inquiries from within the organization, and from external inquiries that relate to the obligations of the organization.
Draft legal briefs for internal distribution and for submission to external agencies.
Draft, review, and negotiate contracts, agreements, and other legal documents to protect the organization’s interests.
Coordinate with organizational departments to ensure contract compliance.
Review and draft updates to organization policies.
Provide general administrative support to the GC, including taking meeting minutes, monitoring action items, and follow‑up.
Assist in overseeing and managing outside counsel for litigation and intellectual property matters.
Coordinate with the Compliance Officer to ensure organizational legal and policy compliance.
Other tasks and projects assigned by the GC.
Law school graduate and current admission to the New York State Bar.
4‑6 years of post‑graduate legal experience in a law firm, a New York not‑for‑profit organization or government agency, interpreting and applying federal, New York State, and New York City healthcare law and policy.
Strong work ethic and initiative, and sound and creative judgment.
Willingness to travel throughout the metropolitan New York area.
Possesses impeccable integrity, personal and professional maturity, and values that are consistent with the organization’s high standards and mission.
Flexibility and ability to adapt to shifting duties while maintaining focus and follow‑through and the ability to work professionally in a fast‑paced environment; ability to prioritize in response to urgent requests.
Ability to handle confidential information and matters with the highest level of discretion.
Excellent oral and written communication skills, including research and proofreading skills.
Applies big‑picture thinking while also focusing on the details of implementation.
Proficiency with Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and SharePoint.
Department of Health, Office of Addiction Services and Supports, Office of Mental Health, and the New York State Justice Center; Experience working with union employees and collective bargaining agreements.
Standard office setting with dedicated office space for the Legal and Compliance team and some other positions.
