The Cato Corporation is seeking an experienced Benefits & Retirement Plans Specialist to join our HR Team

The Cato Corporation, a leading specialty retailer of value-priced women’s fashion apparel with corporate offices located in Charlotte, North Carolina, operates three concepts: The Company’s stock is traded on the NYSE under the symbol “CATO”.

The Benefits and Retirement Plans Specialist reports to the SVP, Treasury, Tax & Credit, Secretary and supports the administration and day-to-day operations of the Company’s Retirement plans: 401(k), Employee Stock Purchase Plan (“ESPP”), Employee Stock Ownership Plan (“ESOP”), and Deferred Compensation plans including the annual open enrollment process, compliance reporting and invoicing. This is an in-office position.

Employee Stock Ownership Plan Administration
~ Employee Stock Purchase Plan Administration
~ Point of contact for Associates regarding all of the Company’s retirement plans.
~ Fill in as needed in other areas of Benefits, including Leave of Absence Administration and Medical/Dental insurance.
~ Support the SVP, Treasury, Tax & Credit, Secretary with benefits and retirement plans funding and vendor payments.
~ Support special projects and cross functional initiatives as assigned.


Knowledge of retirement plans.
Excellent organizational/communication and customer service skills required.

Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field
~2 to 3 years of direct experience in retirement or benefits administration.
~ Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Excel and Access primarily).
~ Excellent written and verbal communication and customer service skills.


Advanced working knowledge of HRIS systems (Lawson Payroll/HR).
Knowledge of laws and regulations affecting retirement plans.
Report writing skill.
