- UT Health Tyler, the flagship hospital of the system, has 502 licensed beds specializing in advanced acute care medicine. Our hospital includes a 24-hour ER with Level 1 trauma center, a comprehensive stroke center, more than 500 physicians and a full complement of subspecialty groups.

Responsibilities
- Assists in providing patient care in accordance with patient care needs as directed by nursing staff and in accordance with physician’s orders and departmental protocols.
- Organizes and completes patient care tasks as assigned with supervision provided by the nursing and medical staff and in accordance with hospital and Emergency Department policy.
- Demonstrates and maintains clinical skills proficiency in all required Emergency Department technical support staff skills, including the use of equipment (as appropriate for position).
- Ensures that treatment areas are properly stocked with patient care supplies and assists in maintaining unit cleanliness.
- Assists in monitoring and documenting the patient’s response to nursing interventions and physician’s orders and informs the Registered Nurse or physician (as appropriate) of changes in the patient’s condition.
- Participates in quality improvement activities and educational activities, including attendance of at least 85% of staff meetings (10 out of 12).
Qualifications
Job Requirements
- High School diploma or equivalent
Preferred Job Requirements
- Basic Cardiac Life Support (BLS)
- Completion of an accredited phlebotomy/medical assistant program with clinicals or previous phlebotomy experience
- Certification from nationally recognized agency, required. Accepted agencies and certifications include, but are not limited to:
- National Heathcareer Association – Certified Phlebotomy Technician: CPT (NHA)
- American Society for Clinical Pathology – Phlebotomy Technician: PBT (ASCP)
- American Medical Technologists – Registered Phlebotomy Technician: RPT (AMT)
- National Center for Competency Testing – National Certified Phlebotomy Technician: NCPT (NCCT)
- American Certification Agency – Certified Phlebotomy Technician: CPT (ACA)
