The Genetic Services team at Labcorp is looking for an onsite Genetic Counselor Assistant (GCA) to join the Westborough, MA team of Genetic Counselors and Assistants.  This team provides support to the Westborough, MA molecular laboratory. This is an office based position with some time spent within the specimen receiving (accessioning) department.

The schedule for this position will be: Tuesday-Saturday, 8:30am-5pm.

Responsibilities:

  • Review a defined set of molecular test requisitions/incoming samples for clarity of physician orders.
  • Release patient results for defined tests under the direction of the Clinical Molecular Geneticists.
  • Provide support to the molecular lab by preparing and monitoring worklists and adding and canceling tests.
  • Provide administrative support for special studies by monitoring several tracking lists.
  • Learn multiple laboratory based computer applications.
  • Troubleshoot issues with IT interfaces.
  • Contact clients for urgent resolution of missing information.
  • Identify cases that must be escalated to a Genetic Counselor.
  • Wear appropriate personal protective equipment when working within the accessioning department.

Requirements:

  • Requires a BA or BS degree in a Biological Science 
  • 1 year or relevant work experience required
  • Previous Customer Service experience preferred
  • Previous healthcare industry such as a hospital or physician’s office highly desired
  • Knowledge of genetics and molecular biology techniques highly preferred
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office suite required. Experience with Laboratory Information Systems preferred
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills and excellent ability to listen and respond effectively
  • Strong flexibility and the ability to manage and adapt to changing priorities quickly
  • Strong project management skills
