The Nurse Manager of the Emergency Department assumes 24-hour responsibility for the overall assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of patient care. This role involves oversight and direction for the emergency department, ensuring high-quality nursing care, and fostering an environment of collaboration and respect with all healthcare team members.

*Operational Performance*:
- Develop long-term unit staffing schedules and ensure adequate daily coverage.
- Monitor and improve unit operational performance metrics, including agency and overtime costs, vacancy, and turnover rates.
- Oversee daily workflow, staffing, orientation, training, and development of employees.
- Lead ongoing quality/performance improvement processes for the emergency department.
- Promote a collaborative team approach in caring for all ED and trauma patients.
- Support and interpret hospital policies, procedures, and objectives.
- Monitor customer satisfaction scores and implement plans for improvement.
- Maintain a departmental dashboard with key performance indicators.
- Investigate and resolve patient, physician, and staff complaints/concerns.

*Clinical Practice/Patient Care*:
- Collaborate with the CNO/SVP of nursing to establish and evaluate nursing care standards.
- Keep nursing staff informed about protocols affecting the patient population.
- Maintain a safe, caring environment for patients, families, and staff.
- Ensure equal access to treatment for all persons in need.

*Management*:
- Participate in the overall planning process for the service.
- Conduct monthly staff meetings to address equipment, scheduling, goals, performance metrics, and staff concerns.

*Human Resource Development/Management*:
- Educate and evaluate staff.
- Work with nursing leadership/Human Resources to counsel, discipline, and terminate staff as needed.
- Educate staff on new and existing department procedures and systems.
- Create and maintain an atmosphere of respect and courtesy toward patients, staff, and colleagues

*Required Skills & Experience:*
- Minimum of five (5) years of nursing experience in management and/or supervisory roles within the Emergency Department.
- Demonstrated leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Effective verbal and written communication in English.
- Creative problem-solving skills and the ability to improve existing programs.
- Ability to manage multiple responsibilities and prioritize work.
- Ability to handle complex situations involving patients, physicians, or staff professionally.

*Required Education*:

Master’s Degree in Nursing.

*Required Certifications & Licensure: *

- Current license to practice as a Registered Professional Nurse in New York State.

- BLS, ACLS, and PALS certifications

Job Type: Contract

Pay: $68.00 - $72.00 per hour
