Physician positions are a mission critical occupation for HRSA. These positions are responsible for formulation of policy and programs administered by Health Resources and Services Administration to provide advice and assistance to Bureaus, Department of Health and Human Services, and other Federal entities as related to the medical aspects of primary health care programs for underserved populations.
This position is located in the Health Resources and Services Administration, Health Systems Bureau, Health Systems Bureau, Division of National Hansen's Disease Program, Clinical Branch. The duty location for this position is in Baton Rouge, LA.
The incumbent will have the choice of selecting a Part-Time or Full-Time schedule.Part Time Employment Defined: A part-time permanent employee has a career or career-conditional appointment (or a permanent appointment in the excepted service), works between 16 and 32 hours each week (or between 32 and 64 hours a pay period) on a prearranged schedule, and is eligible for fringe benefits. As a Pathologist within the National Hansen's Disease Program, you will establish correct diagnoses on difficult and complex cases of Hansen's disease.
Your major duties and responsibilities include:
Providing histopathology readings and interpretations of biopsies from skin or other organs with respect to the diagnosis of HD, the diagnosis of immunological reactions in HD, and the evaluation of the response to-HD treatment.Providing consultation regarding sound professional judgements on diagnosis and disease classification within HRSA, other federal agencies, state and local governments, and other public and private organizations involved in Hansen's disease activities.Collecting, processing, and storing human samples (frozen material) and histopathological material (paraffin blocks, slides).Providing diagnostic services within the specialty of pathology to Hansen's disease (leprosy) patients with acute and complex medical problems.Providing histopathology readings and diagnostic expertise of HD to NHDP, contracted ambulatory care clinics, and other healthcare entities. Have a Degree from Foreign Medical School: A Doctor of Medicine or equivalent degree from a foreign medical school must provide education and medical knowledge equivalent to accredited schools in the United States. Evidence of equivalency to accredited schools in the United States is demonstrated by permanent certification by the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates, a fifth pathway certificate for Americans who completed premedical education in the United States and graduate education in a foreign country. You must provide a copy of your transcripts, foreign equivalency, or ECFMG results with your application. Graduate training programs include only those internship, residency, and fellowship programs that are approved by accrediting bodies recognized within the United States or Canada. Descriptions of such programs are described below:An internship program involves broadly based clinical practice in which physicians acquire experience in treating a variety of medical problems under supervision (e.g., internal medicine, surgery, general practice, obstetrics-gynecology, and pediatrics). Such programs are in hospitals or other institutions accredited for internship training by a recognized body of the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME).A residency program involves training in a specialized field of medicine in a hospital or an institution accredited for training in the specialty by a recognized body of the American Medical Association (AMA) or Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME).A fellowship program involves advanced training (beyond residency training) in a given medical specialty in either a clinical or research setting in a hospital or an institution accredited in the United States for such training.AND
For this GS-15 level position, you must have five (5) years of graduate training in the specialty of the position to be filled OR equivalent experience and training.
