Olympic College is accepting applications to fill several positions in the Corrections Education programs located at the Washington Correctional Center for Women (WCCW) near Gig Harbor, and Mission Creek Correctional Center for Women (MCCCW) near Belfair. Currently OC is looking for excellent faculty to fill several part-time positions teaching GED/High School +, and Business courses.

General Responsibilities:
Corrections Faculty members are professional educators with the primary responsibility of providing a quality education for all Olympic College students. The relationship of the faculty member to the student is one of teacher, mentor, and facilitator of learning. This position reports to the Associate Dean of Corrections Education and will be responsible for teaching classes to incarcerated individuals housed at WCCW or MCCCW. Successful candidates will teach assigned classes, prepare teaching materials, assign grades, maintain records, students as required by the instructional division and the Department of Corrections.

This posting is being advertised to fulfill a contract awarded to Olympic College (OC) by the Washington State Board for Community and Technical Colleges (SBCTC) to operate a correctional education program at Washington Correctional Center for Women and Mission Creek Correctional Center for Women in accordance with an interagency agreement with the Department of Corrections. Olympic College and its employees working in a correctional education program are expected to follow all Department of Corrections (DOC) Policies, IT and other Security requirements, follow DOC Operational Memorandums, and comply with the Superintendent's directions. Essential FunctionsTeach classes in one of the following disciplines: Basic Skills, High School Completion, Developmental Education, Business and/or Business Technology. Successful candidates are skilled at utilizing both lecture and laboratory modes of instruction.Help to screen prospective students into the program.Maintain competency assessment records and student progress accountability measures on all students enrolled in the assigned course sections.Monitor and evaluate student performance to include daily documentation, tracking and assignment of grades.Ensure that classroom/lab and equipment are in excellent condition and maintained.Participate in meetings and trainings as required by the college and DOC.Competencies:Ability to interact with those in custody and the public according to expected guidelines; treating people with dignity and respect. Ability to effectively combine an array of methods to enhance understanding, including demonstrations, lectures, group discussions and activities, individual activities, etc., to ensure student success. Ability to recognize the value of cultural, ethnic, gender and other individual differences in people.Ability to build constructive working relationships characterized by a high level of integrity, cooperation and mutual respect.Demonstrate a commitment to teach students with limited formal education, as well as the experienced student desiring to further their career goals. Those teaching in a professional/technical field may substitute experience for some of the education, with a minimum of an Associate degree in the field of study.Two quarters of successful teaching (a minimum of 4 individual classes), with community college teaching in a correctional facility being the most highly prized, or related training experience.Intermediate-level technology competency, including Microsoft Office Applications and ability to embrace and learn new instructional technologies. Demonstrated experience facilitating the success of students who represent a broad range of academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds.Desired QualificationsMaster's degree from an accredited college or university in the discipline taught.Student advising and student recruitment experience desired.Experience teaching in a correctional facility.Additional Information Terms of employment
These are part-time instructional assignments. All classes will be taught at the Department of Corrections facilities - WCCW or MCCW. Department of Correction positions are grant funded and funding is not guaranteed. Upon loss of grant funding, the position will end.

Faculty members must submit official, unopened transcripts to the Human Resources department within 30 days of their employment.This is an adjunct faculty position contracted on a quarterly basis. Placement on the faculty salary schedule will be commensurate with educational background and experience. The salary listed is a range based on per quarter. A collective bargaining agreement exists, and this position is covered by the Association for Higher Education (AHE). Flexibility is required to meet the needs of the department. Evening and/or weekend classes, instruction at satellite Olympic College campuses, and off-campus assignments including travel to clinical sites may be a part of the instructional load.Adjunct positions at the college are open continuously and reviewed on a quarter-by-quarter basis. Individuals who apply to the applicant pool are considered active for a period of 12 months from the application date and may be contacted when vacancies occur. Adjuncts are not eligible for benefits upon their initial hire, Adjunct faculty must work 50 percent of a full-time load for two consecutive quarters to become eligible. All corrections education and faculty offers will be contingent on pending DOC requirements - an NCIC security clearance and permission to be badged for the facility. Additionally, all staff and faculty must complete the mandatory Non-Custody Correctional Worker (CORR) training within the first 3 months of employment.
