A Laboratory Technician V specializing in Bacteriology is a senior-level professional responsible for conducting advanced laboratory tests and analyses in the field of bacteriology. This position provides support with laboratory experiments in BSL-2 and BSL-3 laboratories. It also aids in the execution of scientific studies and plaque assays, PCR and other assays, animal procedures, collection/data analyzing, and maintain laboratory and laboratory equipment.

*Compensation & Benefits:*
Estimated Starting Salary Range for *Laboratory Technician V- Bacteriology *: $60,000.00.
Pay commensurate with experience.

*Laboratory Technician V- Bacteriology Responsibilities Include:*

* Prepares for and participate in BSL2 and BSL3 lab inspections.
* Prepares reagents/media for lab.
* Prepares cloning plasmids, sequencing reactions and plasmid preparations.
* Presents data collection at group meeting.
* Organizes and maintains data generated from studies.
* Responsible for hand receipt items.
* Performs animal challenges.
* Performs animal necropsies.
* Performs literature searches and review relevant literature monthly.
* Assists in the preparation standard operating procedures and manuscripts relating to research efforts. May be expected to present research findings at one scientific conference per year. Will present results in written and oral format publicly and internally as requested.
* Provide 1 Bacteriology Technical Support monthly report to TPOC by the last working day of the month. Report would include materials and methods, data, and data analysis and should be update monthly. Technical report should have a Bacteriology Technical section.
* Serves as BSL-2 laboratory training representative.
* Participates in training new personnel on laboratory tasks.
* Conducts BSAT inventory.
* Assists with BSL-3 supervisory duties.
* Plans and performs animal experiments under BLS-3 conditions.
* Participates in rodent studies.
* Performs basic lab skills.
* Completes equipment inventory.
* Assesses and maintains laboratory supplies using GFEBS.
* Assists with project planning.
* Measures cytokines in cell cultures and cell extracts.
* Completes toxin neutralization assays
Performs other job-related duties as assigned

*Laboratory Technician V- Bacteriology Experience, Education, Skills, Abilities requested:*

* Master’s degree or the equivalent in Molecular Biology, Microbiology, Biochemistry, Immunology, Biology, or a related field and 4 years’ experience in a bacteriology laboratory. Preferred prior BSL-3 or BSL-4 laboratories, clinical diagnostics and regulatory laboratory experience.
* Skilled in BSL3 or BSL 4 environments.
* Skilled in animal inoculations, tissue collection and conduct bleeding.
* Skilled in basic cell culture, plaque assays, plaque reduction neutralization test, PCR, ELISA, Western Blot and clinical laboratory tests on animal samples.
* Skilled in animal gavage, blood collection and injections.
* Experience with isolating and purifying DNA specimens.
* Skilled in processing bacterial spore harvests.
* Skilled in the preparation of media/reagents.
* Ability to perform antibody determinations.
* Attention to details; accurate record keeping skills; willingness to work in BSL-2 and BSL-3 high containment laboratories.
* Ability to plan, troubleshoot, and execute laboratory studies and equipment in a highly regulated environment.
* Ability to work in a matrixed, team-oriented environment involving multiple projects.
* Ability to prove US citizenship.
* Must be able to pass a US Government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information.
* Past applicable job experience may include, but is not limited to: Senior Bacteriology Lab Technician, Bacteriology Laboratory Supervisor, or Bacteriology Research Associate
* CS-PRP enrollment is required and will be held and maintained IAW the provisions in this contract and all applicable regulations.
* BPRP enrollment is required and will be held and maintained IAW the provisions in this contract and all applicable regulations.
