UVM Medical Center offers a perioperative nursing course developed by The Association of Operating Room Nurses (AORN). The purpose of this course is to prepare the licensed practical nurse for entry level practice in perioperative setting. The course consists of a didactic online web-based learning modules along with a preceptor clinical experience. Emphasis will be placed on performing functions directly related to scrubbing in the operating room. A rotation through various services (ENT/Dental, Plastics, General, GYN, GU, daVinci Robotics, CVT, Ortho, Neuro, Eyes, and Sports Medicine) occurs during this internship. After orientation, the position will include an "On Call" component as well as an off-shift rotation. Upon successful completion of the AORN web-based course, the intern will receive a certificate of completion.
The LPN Scrub Nurse is responsible for the creation and maintenance of the sterile field. The LPN Scrub Nurse accurately and efficiently anticipates surgeon's needs intraoperatively by applying comprehensive knowledge of operative procedures, equipment, anatomy, and surgeons’ preferences. The LPN Scrub Nurse works closely with all perioperative team members during the preoperative, intraoperative, and post-operative care of the surgical patient.
Currently accepting new grad LPNs, experienced LPNs with current LPN licensure or compact licensure recognized by the State of Vermont is required.
