The Senior Director, Scientific Affairs is responsible for working with physicians, laboratory directors and personnel, and scientific and academic researchers to address scientific and medical questions related to Cepheid infectious disease products and test results. This role provides clinical/scientific expertise to Research and Development, Marketing, and commercial teams and product development. Additionally, they develop clinical studies and scientific strategies that build data supporting use of Cepheid assays for pre- and post-launch market penetration.
This position is part of the Medical & Scientific Affairs department and will be located on site at our global headquarters in Sunnyvale, California. At Cepheid, our vision is to be the leading provider of seamlessly connected diagnostic solutions.
In this role, you will have the opportunity to:
Serve as a professional liaison to the Cepheid user community: physicians, laboratory directors and scientists, infection control personnel, and independent investigators.
Serve as a key internal consultant/team member on product design and development.
Facilitate collaborative relationships with thought leaders internally as advisors, consultant, investigators, expert guest speakers and business development partners.
Leverage thought leader relationships by aligning their expertise with Cepheid needs.
Serve as a key internal consultant/team member on product design and development for R&D, Marketing, Clinical Affairs, Regulatory Affairs, Government Affairs, and other teams.
The essential requirements of the job include:
Doctoral degree in Microbiology or related field, or M.D. degree, both requiring 5+ years of experience in clinical microbiology and/or public health, along with board certification (e.g. ABMM).
Generate and disseminate scientific evidence through attendance/presentations at national and international meetings, and external collaborations.
Evidence of recognition, at national or international level, through publications, invited presentations, committee roles.
Experience overseeing a laboratory responsible for the investigation of customer inquiries, additional assay development, and post-launch activities.
Familiarity with lab instrumentation such as whole genome sequencing, MALDI-TOF mass spectrometry, phenotypic ID/AST, and an anaerobic culture chamber.
It would be a plus if you also possess previous experience in:
3+ years of successful experience in industry within a diagnostic arena.
Experience in FDA regulated environment desirable.
Clinical application of next generation sequencing and bioinformatics pipeline tools.

The salary range for this role is $265,000 - $280,000. This is the range that we in good faith believe is the range of possible compensation for this role at the time of this posting. We may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range. This range may be modified in the future.
This job is also eligible for bonus/incentive pay.
