We are on the hunt for a proficient HVAC/Refrigeration Mechanic. The ideal candidate will have expertise in the installation, operation, and maintenance of a wide range of ventilation and air conditioning equipment, from 1/8 hp ventilators to 35-ton rooftop units. We value the ability to analyze, repair, and maintain various aspects of refrigeration systems, including mechanical, electrical, and piping issues. This role extends to residential, commercial, and research-based systems.
Your responsibilities will include addressing mechanical, electrical, and gas-related issues in gas-fired furnaces, boilers, and rooftop units. You will also be expected to troubleshoot complex control issues in non-refrigeration systems such as vacuum systems, fluid pumping systems, air compressors, dryers, humidifiers, steam heating systems, and pressure reducing stations.
The employee in this position is required to regularly stand, lift, bend, stoop, lift above shoulders, and carry weights of 50 pounds or more, with job lifting requirements potentially exceeding 100 pounds. Overtime work after 4:30 pm and shift work may be necessary as determined by management. The role also demands the ability to perform snow and ice removal tasks and respond to management’s scheduling at any time, regardless of weather conditions.May also be exposed to electrical shock when troubleshooting control circuits and work may be performed around high pressure refrigerant systems, in cramped quarters, and/or hot/cold environment. Regular exposure to disagreeable conditions, extreme temperature changes, odors and loud noises may occur. Appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE), including gloves and safety glasses, is provided for workplace use. Adherence to all safety requirements and the promotion of work safety are mandatory.

The employee in this position may be required to work overtime after 4 pm, shift work, and be on a rotating standby for emergencies during non-business hours including when the university is closed and/or other events after 5 pm on weekdays, weekends, and holidays when management deems necessary. Required Qualifications:

High School/GEDThree years of prior successful work experience with two of those years of experience in heating and air conditioning repairs, maintenance, and/or installation working in a building maintenance organization. Electrical controls troubleshooting using manufacturer’s schematics.Certified EPA Refrigerant Usage Card within a year of hireHave before hire and maintain after hire, a valid driver’s license. A valid driver’s license must be maintained for the operation of an OSU vehicle, which is required in the performance of job duties as assigned.Ability to read blueprints and control/electrical schematic readings.Work can be on ladders at high heights.
Ability to follow instructions precisely and completely, have good communication skills, ability to work with little supervision.Ability to become proficient in the use of “AiM” computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) software and the use of mobile technology.Must adhere to all safety requirements and promote work safety.Positive team standing.
Regularly stands, lifts, bends, stoops, lifts above shoulders and carries 50 lbs or more.
