Director of Surveys and Analysis

As the ASHA Director of Surveys and Analysis, you will lead our survey research operations, using your knowledge of survey methodology and analytics to help us collect important insights. This key role involves supervising a team of researchers and overseeing the full range of survey processes that inform decisions for ASHA’s operations, and the broader field of Communication Sciences and Disorders. Every day you will:
- Mentor and support a diverse team of researchers, improving their skills in both qualitative and quantitative research methods.
- Work with various ASHA departments and external partners to plan, execute, and analyze surveys that address critical issues.
- Use your analytical skills to transform complex data into clear, useful insights that can drive improvements in ASHA’s programs and services.

As ASHA’s Director of Surveys and Analysis you will lead a team of skilled researchers responsible for end-to-end delivery of ASHA’s survey operations. Leveraging your background in social research, survey methodology, and analytics you will help expand this team’s ability to deliver timely insights to ASHA staff, volunteers, members, and external originations that will drive decision-making in the Communication Sciences and Disorders discipline. In this position, you will collaborate across business units in ASHA as a trusted advisor, guiding stakeholder consultations to translate information needs into targeted survey instruments and focus groups and insightful reporting. Additionally, as a member of the Analytics and Surveys Cluster, you will work closely with the Senior Director of Analytics to integrate insights from research projects into ongoing operational reporting.
Responsibilities- Lead and coach a team of researchers with varying expertise in survey methodology, qualitative research, and statistics.
- Plan, conduct, and analyze survey projects in response to requests from National Office staff; Association committees, boards, councils; and other groups.
- Plan, conduct, and analyze evaluations of Association programs, products, and services such as conferences, resources and materials, and member benefits, offering the full range of available survey services.
- Prepare reports and make presentations to Association staff, committees, boards, and councils, and external groups, providing information on the Association’s internal and external (e.g., Bureau of Labor Statistics, Census Bureau) data resources.
- Conduct specialized analyses of existing survey and operational data.
- Develop and implement data management and governance policies for ongoing data collection and across existing survey datasets.
- Serve as a resource for ASHA staff, committees, boards, and councils, members, state speech-language-hearing associations, external professional organizations, and other groups that seek guidance for planning/conducting survey and evaluation research and statistical analysis.
- Provide expert technical assistance for the National Office, ASHA affiliates, and other organizations on the Association’s survey and qualitative data resources.
- Master’s degree in survey methodology, public policy, statistics, data science, psychology, or related field
- Five or more years of experience in the use and application of survey research methodology, program evaluation, and statistical analysis
- Experience supervising.
- Experience at a nonprofit association is preferred.
- Demonstrated skills in and knowledge of survey research methodology, program evaluation, sampling, and advanced quantitative and qualitative statistical analysis.
- Demonstrated intermediate-level skills in the use of statistical analysis, web-based survey platforms, database, data visualization, and word processing software (SPSS, Power BI, Survey Monkey, Excel, PowerPoint, and Microsoft Word preferred)
- Demonstrated ability to effectively lead, motivate, and supervise a team with varying skill sets.
- Demonstrated ability to handle multiple tasks and complicated, detailed work in an organized fashion in the face of changing priorities.
- Demonstrated ability to work with high-level professionals, committees, and governing boards.
- Demonstrated ability to work well as part of a team and individually.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate technical concepts orally and in writing to professionals and non-professionals.
