Job Description Summary:
Prepare and deliver courses in Interdisciplinary Humanities, employing engaging, innovative, and discipline-appropriate methods that reflect a commitment to student success, an understanding of potential culturally bias teaching, and knowledge of the teaching field. Meet professional standards for faculty in accordance with college policies and procedures.
In addition, the department offers dual enrollment courses to area high school students seeking both college and high school credit. This position will primarily support the teaching of our high school students within our dual enrollment programs.

About the Department
The Philosophy, Religion and Humanities department provides students with critical thinking skills that have a broad range of applications in professional, social, and personal life. Courses cover a diverse group of questions and topics, spanning from classic investigations into the nature of reality, truth, and morality, to contemporary inquiries into freedom, identity, and justice.
In addition to offering an Associates Degree in Philosophy with an Emphasis in Humanities, our course offerings support a number of other college degree programs. These include Interdisciplinary Studies, Mexican American Studies, and General Studies.
Principal Responsibilities and Duties
- Prepare and teach courses in the field of Humanities to a multicultural student population based on the department's approved course learning outcomes, utilizing a variety of instructional strategies appropriate to the needs of community college students and the standards of the discipline.
- Participate actively in departmental responsibilities and departmental governance, including curriculum review and revision, program review, assessment of student learning outcomes at the course and program level, and other departmental activities.
- Evaluate student progress and provide clear, timely feedback reflecting program learning outcomes and departmental expectations.
- Serve as a mentor to students in the Humanities program.
- Provide teaching and mentoring services to students in a manner which does not discriminate based on race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, disability, age, protected veteran status, political affiliation, or other protected categories.
- Remain current in the field through a variety of professional development activities.
- Support division and department goals through active and collegial engagement in decision-making and unit-level planning.
- Serve on collegewide and departmental committees, councils, work groups, and task forces.
- Perform other related tasks as assigned by the department chair, dean, and/or associate vice chancellor, vice chancellor, executive vice chancellor.
Additional Duties
- Teach high school students within dual credit programs (primary focus of position).
Technology
- Demonstrated proficiency using computer applications, online resources, and other technologies for the classroom.
- Demonstrated proficiency using an online learning management system such as Blackboard to develop and build course content and perform administrative duties (posting office hours, syllabi, etc.)
- Demonstrated proficiency in providing instruction via video conferencing platforms (such as Zoom).
Principal Professional Standards
- Appropriate use of the college's learning management system.
- Meet deadlines for attendance certification and submission of final course grades.
- Participate in graduation, general assembly, and other official college functions.
- Maintain regular office hours to assist students and improve student retention and success.

Required Education
Educational requirements in accordance with SACSCOC accreditation standards. Candidate must meet at least one of the following:
- Master's degree in Humanities, Liberal Arts, or Liberal Studies; or
- Master's degree with at least 18 graduate hours in Humanities, Liberal Arts, or Liberal Studies; or
- Master's degree with at least 6 graduate hours in Humanities, Liberal Arts, or Liberal Studies and 12 additional humanities relevant graduate hours in one or more of the following fields: Humanities, Liberal Arts, Liberal Studies, Classics, Art, Theatre, Dance, Film, Music, Creative Writing, Art History, English Literature, Foreign Languages and Literature, Philosophy, Religion or Religious Studies, Area Studies (American Studies, Asian Studies, Latin American Studies, African Studies, etc.), Women's Studies, Gender Studies, Ethnic Studies, Intercultural Communication, History; or
- Master's degree with at least 18 humanities relevant graduate credit hours in any combination of at least three of the following fields and evidence of interdisciplinary work or studies in the humanities: Humanities, Liberal Arts, Liberal Studies, Classics, Art, Theatre, Dance, Film, Music, Creative Writing, Art History, English Literature, Foreign Languages and Literature, Philosophy, Religion or Religious Studies, Area Studies (American Studies, Asian Studies, Latin American Studies, African Studies, etc.), Women's Studies, Gender Studies, Ethnic Studies, Intercultural Communication, History.

- Experience working with high school students or populations.
