The Shop Foreman ensures that repairs are performed correctly and efficiently by qualified technicians and that the service department maintains a consistently high level of customer satisfaction.

Duties & Responsibilities

Inspect, repair, or overhaul buses, trucks, and heavy equipment.
Diagnose malfunctions; consult with customers on diagnosis.
Read and interpret diagnostic test results.
Raise trucks, buses, and heavy parts or equipment by using hydraulic jacks or hoists
Inspect brake systems, steering mechanisms, transmissions, engines, etc.
Do routine maintenance, oil changes, battery check, lubricating equipment and parts.
Adjust and align wheels, tighten bolts and screws, and attach system components.
Repair or replace malfunctioning components, parts, mechanical or electrical equipment.
Test-drive vehicles to ensure that they run correctly after repair.
Assists technicians in developing their skills.
Understands, keeps abreast of, and complies with federal, state, and local regulations that affect service operations, such as hazardous waste disposal, OSHA Right-to-Know, etc.
Understands and ensures compliance with manufacturer warranty and policy procedures.
Ensures that all repairs are assigned to technicians in an equal and fair manner.
Provides technical support for technicians when necessary.
Checks progress of each repair order throughout the shift.
Maintains high-quality service repairs and minimizes comebacks. Conducts periodic spot checks of completed jobs for thoroughness and quality.
Road tests vehicles to quality-check work performed.
Monitors shop condition, including cleanliness, safety, and the condition of shop equipment.
Reports problems to the service manager or dealer.
Ensures the proper care, storage, and inventory of special tools.
Keeps abreast of new equipment and tools available and recommends purchases.
Attends managers meetings as requested.
Strives for harmony and teamwork within the department and with all other departments.
Maintains a safe work environment.
Maintains professional appearance.

Required Skills & Abilities

Knowledge of all aspects of vehicle repair.
Excellent mechanical repair skills.
Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
Ability to visually diagnose mechanical issues.
Proficient with computer diagnostic equipment and software.
Ability to read service and repair manuals.
Ability to perform repairs in a timely fashion.
Ability to read work orders.

Qualifications & Requirements

Four plus Years Experience
CDL preferred
High school diploma or equivalent required
Ability to regularly lift 50 pounds and occasionally lift up to 100 pounds.
Must be able to maintain stationary positions throughout the work day.
Must be able to bend, stretch, kneel, and squat to perform required tasks.
Must be able to stand and walk for prolonged periods.
