Based in the Level One 763-bed Trauma and Academic Center, Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital, our program provides comprehensive otolaryngology coverage to over one million people in a large, rural, multi-state area. Otolaryngology services are also provided in several other Carilion hospitals, including Carilion New River Valley Medical Center, Carilion Giles Community Hospital, and Carilion Franklin Memorial Hospital. The section also operates clinics in three satellite locations in the region, with plans to open two additional sites within the next year. Clinical pathology is exceptionally broad, and our otolaryngologists perform the full breadth of procedures of all levels of complexity.

Carilion Clinic is a progressive, emerging leader in American healthcare dedicated to improving outcomes and enhancing value for every patient, while advancing the quality of care through medical education and research. A physician-led, multi-specialty, not-for-profit healthcare organization based in Roanoke, VA, Carilion Clinic operates 7 hospitals, 282 outpatient clinics, 788 physicians representing more than 75+ specialties, along with 314 residents and fellows in 28 accredited ACGME programs. Education and research activities and opportunities abound through our intimate relationships with the Virginia Tech Carillon School of Medicine (VTCSOM), the Fralin Biomedical Research Institute at VTC, and Virginia Tech proper. We are actively involved in the education of medical students, residents from multiple CC-VTC and outside training programs, allied health science students, and Virginia Tech undergraduate and graduate students. We currently provide clinical training for senior residents from the otolaryngology residency at the Naval Medical Center Portsmouth with the goal to establish our own residency program. The CC-VTC system stands on the brink of unprecedented expansion and opportunity through the burgeoning relationship with Virginia Tech. The position requires an academic appointment at VTCSOM.

Other requirements include:
  • MD/DO, Board Certification in Otolaryngology, Head and Neck Surgery
  • Fellowship Training in Pediatric Otolaryngology, or ability to cover both Peds and Adults
  • Evidence of strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Interest in teaching and/or research
