The Diesel Mechanic Apprentice will ideally assist the mechanics as they perform preventative maintenance, and repair work on our fleet of Ready-Mix Concrete trucks, Equipment, and other motor vehicles in the company’s fleet.

*Duties and Responsibilities:*
* Repair work and preventative maintenance on company fleet of Ready-Mix Concrete trucks to determine probable cause of vehicle problem and determine what parts and work will be required to complete repairs.
* Performs routine and advanced maintenance on a variety of vehicles and equipment.
* Repair power train components such as engine, transmission, differentials, PTO systems, transfer cases, hydraulic motors and pumps and all other auxiliary drive components.
* Truck engine maintenance: lube, oil, and filter Diagnose suspension system problems such as vehicle alignment, springs and chassis mounting systems.
* Troubleshoots electrical components such as gauges, sending units, relays, lighting systems and solenoids.
* Performs DOT brake repairs on commercial vehicles.
* Maintains a clean work area, sweeps floors, removes oil and grease spills, and performs other general custodial work, as required
* Familiarity with spring and air suspension systems
* Familiarity with hydraulic systems
* Familiarity with air brake systems
* Performs engine performance and wiring diagnostics to isolate performance problem(s) and complete necessary repair(s)
* May be called upon to assist in or perform repairs on all equipment involved in the production of ready-mix concrete including front end loaders and conveyors at the ready- mix plant and able to perform some welding and fabrication a plus.
* General welding skills preferred
* Or any other duties assigned by your Supervisor

*Qualifications:*
* Valid Driver's license required, with clean MVR. (Class A or B CDL preferred)
* Advanced knowledge of diesel engines, hydraulics, and electrical systems.
* Understands and obeys all DOT regulations as it pertains to our Fleet
* Must always put safety first, whether performing routine maintenance, diagnosing, or making repairs. Always stay Safe
* Must have good analytical and problem-solving skills.
* Must be able to work and complete repairs correctly the first time, in a timely manner, with or without supervision
* Must have a good positive attitude, an open mind to continuing to learn new things each day, to be a team player, and a desire to advance while building a career with Alabama Concrete Inc.
* Proficient with computer diagnostic equipment and software.
* Ability to read repair and service manuals.
* Must be on time every day, dependable, and trustworthy.
* Must have dependable transportation to get you to and from work each day.

*Working Conditions:*
* Work in a shop environment with occasional roadside calls if necessary.
* Work with and or around multiple liquids such as fuel, oil, antifreeze, grease etc…
* Will be exposed to physical occupational risks, such as cuts, burns, exposure to toxic chemicals, etc…
* Work in changing environment (weather, hot, cold)
* Will be exposed to a physical environment which involves, dust, dirt, grease, odors, and noise

*Physical Requirements:*
* Constant physical effort, including standing, is required during a regular work shift.
* Employee must be able to stand for extended periods of time, and to stoop, bend, squat, and crouch as required to perform duties.
* Frequently work with hands extended overhead, sometimes in conjunction with the operation of hand power tools.
* Ability to lift and carry, on a frequent basis, at least 50 pounds and, at times, as much as 90 pounds, as may be assigned.
* Must be able to concentrate and stay focused on the task at hand and work safely in a noisy area or environment.
