Job Title: Orthopedic Clinic Technician

Job Summary:

The Orthopedic Clinic Technician provides both direct and indirect patient care under the guidance of physicians, participating in various surgical and non-surgical procedures. Responsibilities include assisting orthopedic surgeons in the Cast Room during patient care procedures such as fracture reduction, hardware removal, halo traction application, dressing changes, and other orthopedic procedures. The Technician also measures and fits patients for braces and other orthopedic devices, educating them on their use. The role involves applying mobilization and immobilization devices for inpatient and post-operative patients, including shoulder slings, knee immobilizers, traction, abduction pillows, and continuous passive motion machines. Additionally, the Technician plays an active role in the surgery and procedure scheduling process, ensuring all necessary testing, prior authorizations, and coordination of resources are completed prior to surgery dates. Attendance at 80% of staff meetings is mandatory.

Qualifications

Knowledge/Experience:

  • Demonstrates knowledge and understanding of medical terminology, human anatomy, and physiology.
  • Must have excellent gross and fine motor skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills are required.
  • Prior experience in a hospital, athletic training, sports medicine, or physician office setting is preferred.

Education:

  • High School Graduate or GED.
  • Degree in Athletic Training is preferred.
  • Commitment to maintaining knowledge, skills, and abilities through ongoing education.
  • Completion of all mandatory review and education as required and assigned.

License/Certification/Registry:

Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is required.
