Job Description

I. POSITION SUMMARY

 

The primary responsibility of this position is coordination and supervision of the Machining Operations departments.  The position is responsible for maintaining smooth and timely flow of machined parts throughout the production processes and timely delivery to our customer. Duties will include initial and continuing evaluation of the department and its employees and continual improvement of processes to present and maintain the highest level of yield, quality and customer satisfaction.

 

II. MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE, EDUCATION AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS

 

  • B.S degree preferred in a technical discipline or equivalent experience.
  • 3-5 years’ supervisory experience in a machining environment, with emphasis on CNC screw machines. 
  • Good knowledge of employee relations. 
  • Mechanical ability, experience and knowledge of setting up CNC machines, performing necessary offsets and editing CNC programs.
  • Management exposure and organizational skills to support a continually growing department.
  • Requires excellent communications skills.
  • Computer skills are necessary.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

 

A.  PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
           

  • Punctuality, able to sustain attendance guidelines, and work hours as assigned.
  • Occasionally required to lift units (up to approx. 50 lbs. in weight) and handle product. 
  • Frequent movement about the plant required for communications with other departments.
  • Sitting for moderate periods of time required for computer work and meetings.
  • Frequent driving on company business is required as part of this job.


MENTAL REQUIREMENTS

 

 

  • Ability to schedule work orders and set priorities.
  • Ability to plan and organize components stock to support incoming workload.
  • Ability to plan labor load to support incoming workload.
  • Able to handle issues and communications with the department staff in professional, consistent and appropriate manner.
  • Ability to identify and act upon problems with behavior and performance of department staff.
  • Management of priorities and tasks to maintain a minimum of two Kanban scans of all machined parts to support assembly operations. 


C.  DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES  (Other duties consistent with the general nature and focus of the position and/or the goals and objectives of the department may be assigned.)

 

People:

Supervise hourly staff and 2-4 Team leads
Direct the training of the machinists, operators and finishers/assemblers based on individual and department needs. Implement training programs to close gap to target.

Regulatory and Quality Systems:

 

  • Aware of practices and processes utilizing current management tools.
  • Ensures that all company policies are consistently observed and enforced.
  • Prepares work standards and assures they are a heard to on a consistent basis to meet production lead and cycle times.
  • Conducts Kaizens and other techniques in order to implement quality improvements on a continuous basis.
  • Maintain employee training records.
  • Writes ECO’s for the department.
  • Leads department efforts to ensure a continuous improvement work environment which develops people, and improved production yields and product quality.
  • Educate and train team members to ensure an engaged workforce which understands and support the concepts of lean manufacturing. 


Delivery:

 

  • Interface promptly with team members and support personnel to resolve manufacturing issues expedite, MRB, purchase supplies, managing work order and monitor inventory.
  • Initiate and support future growth planning of the department (including equipment, personnel, and facility growth planning) by constantly analyzing department needs and exploring new avenues of service that can be offered to the customer.
  • Organization and maintenance of inventories for parts, subassemblies, supplies, and tools.
  • Oversees MRB and morning market.
  • Ability to pull in technical resources to resolve down times greater than one hour.
  • Monitor and improve department performance, goals and objectives on a daily, weekly and monthly basis.
  • Deploy weekly and monthly strategies.
  • Oversees and conduct weekly 6’s audits Oversees PM and calibration program for the department.
  • Monitor department performance against metrics, reports results and takes actions to close gaps


Cost:

 

  • Monitor and implement cost reduction efforts.
  • Oversees the “Everyone Every Day” continuous improvement initiative.

 

D.  ENVIRONMENT, HEALTH AND SAFETY:

 

  • Must be committed to a high standard of safety and be willing and able to comply with all environmental and safety laws and regulations, including the Company’s environmental and safety policies and procedures.  Must be willing to report actual and potential environmental and safety violations to appropriate supervisory and/or management personnel.
  • The incumbent in this position is responsible for knowledge of and adherence to environmental policies and company procedures as they relate to ISO 14001.
  • Must not pose a direct threat or significant risk of substantial harm to the safety of himself/herself or others.
  • Responsible for informing the Company if he/she is taking medications or if there are any other circumstances that would interfere with safe performance of job duties.
  • Incumbent must maintain knowledge of chemicals used in this department and their possible hazards. 
  • Position must enforce the use of safety glasses in designated areas or during certain operations. 
  • Position must assure proper lifting methods are used.
  • Position is responsible for acting on and recording information from subordinates regarding potential safety hazards and issues.
  • Understand the risks of potentially contaminated and/or sharp devices and take necessary precautions to ensure their own safety and the safety of others.


E.  QUALITY:

 

  • The incumbent in this position is responsible for knowledge of and adherence to the policies and procedures as they relate to the requirements of FDA Quality System Regulation, ISO 13485 and ISO 9001 (current revisions).             
  • Maintenance and development of department related documented procedures defining processes used to assure quality product is delivered on a consistent basis.
  • Maintain training documentation to assure that department personnel follow established procedures.
  • Responsible for preventing any product of known inferior quality per company documentation from being delivered to customers.


F.  INTERPERSONAL AND COMMUNICATION SKILLS:

 

  • Must be able to maintain productive working relationships with co-workers.
  • Must treat fellow employees with respect.
  • Must be capable of conversing effectively both verbally and in written form to interface with customers, customer service representatives, and direct reports in order to satisfy Electromechanical schedules and customer demand. 
  • Must communicate with superiors to report schedule attainment, report personnel issues, and give process improvement suggestions.
  • Must be able to motivate and organize direct reports.

  • It is critical for the supervisor to continue to learn and train alongside the floor personnel including occasional hands-on work, so that she/he is capable of communicating on all topics involved with the repairs.
  • Gauge the overall performance and progress of the department by performing statistical analysis including: individual and total production, mix of incoming product types, average repair time, etc.
