ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

A CARPENTER / SCAFFOLD BUILDER falls into the medium physical demand category and will report directly to the Lead Carpenter / Journeyman.
  1. Provides leadership, instruction and guidance to craft workers in work crew.
  2. Provides assistance to Lead Carpenter / Journeyman.
  3. Displays a positive attitude towards Safety, Quality, Policy and Procedures.
  4. Has the knowledge of and exercises all of OSHA, Brand and Customer policies at job site.
  5. Complete a qualified Job Safety Plan identifying the hazards and risks and implement necessary controls.
  6. Select and use proper PPE as identified on the JSP.
  7. Demonstrate proper site preparation prior to scaffold erection, modification or dismantling. (housekeeping, etc.)
  8. Erecting and dismantling scaffold equipment as part of a crew.
  9. Observes safe practices and use proper ladder climbing techniques.
  10. Participate and mentor crew to lead tool box talks on Safety and Performance.
  11. Loads, transports, and unloads materials, tools, equipment, and supplies using proper lift technique.
  12. Putting up caution tape, flags, and hang tags on flagging.
  13. Promote and Build Team attitude and complete other duties as required by Supervisor.
  14. Must be able to perform the duties of the Lead Carpenter in his/her absence under the direct supervision of a Foreman.


EQUIPMENT USED TO PERFORM JOB:
  1. PPE (FRC free of holes, Hard Hat, Gloves, Safety Glasses, Safety Boots, etc.)
  2. Hammer (16 - 22 oz.)
  3. Torpedo level (9)
  4. Scaffold wrenches.
  5. Full Body Harness.
  6. Tape Measure.
  7. Plyers (number 9)
  8. Utility Knife.
  9. Tool belt.


OTHER ASPECTS AND DEMANDS OF THE JOB NOT LISTED:

The ability to climb scaffold, ladders, and stairs on a repetitive basis is necessary to perform the day to day functions of a Carpenter / Scaffold Builder. Approved training will be verified or provided prior to issuing of fall protection equipment, knowledge of fall protection and the use of fall protection equipment (Full Body Harness with Shock Absorbing Lanyard) is critical for working safely at elevation.

Carpenter / Scaffold Builders should also have knowledge of system, and tube and clamp scaffold equipment. They must also be able to tie appropriate knots as they pertain to hoisting and rigging scaffold components. (Bowline, timber hitch & clove hitch) Other Carpenter / Scaffold Builder duties may include:
  1. Receiving and returning material to scaffold yard/lay-down.
  2. Knowledge of quality control checks and inspections.
  3. Knowledge of scaffold hand signals.
  4. Knowledge of material handling techniques.
  5. Assisting in basing out tower scaffold.
  6. Installing toe boards, guardrails, ladders, etc. on scaffold towers and cantilevers.
  7. Perform general laborer duties which pertain to the scaffold trade.

NOTE: Carpenter / Scaffold Builder must be under the direct supervision of a Lead Carpenter / Journeyman at all times when erecting, modifying or dismantling hanging, suspended or cantilever type scaffold.

QUALIFICATIONS:
  1. High school diploma or GED, preferred.
  2. Bilingual Communication, preferred.
  3. Driver requirements in accordance with Brand Vehicle Policy, if required.
  4. Must have 3 years of experience in the scaffold craft.
  5. Must pass Brand's skills assessment.
  6. Must be NCCER certified as a Scaffold Builder (SCFB31).
  7. Must be willing to become a qualified Brand Mentor within 6 months from date of hire or complete the customer short service worker program.
  8. Based on customer requirements, may be able to pass an extensive background check.


COMPENSATION
  1. Hourly, Non-exempt.
  2. Rate based on project size, complexity, and candidate qualifications and may be adjusted based upon job performance.
  3. Additional compensation (per diem, safety incentives, etc.) available as per project contract.
  4. No rate, level of job assignment or duration of job is guaranteed.
