Overview

We seek a highly motivated physician leader for the position of Division Chief (Chief) of Maternal-Fetal Medicine & Ultrasound Genetics in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at WashU Medicine, a nationally recognized medical school ranked in NIH funding. The Obstetrics and Gynecology Department at WashU is ranked in NIH funding with extensive clinical and basic science research. The Division is nationally and internationally renowned and cares for patients across a four-state region, including Missouri, Indiana, Illinois, and Iowa.

Reporting to the Chair of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, the Chief will be responsible for the strategic planning, program development, growth, and expansion of clinical operations and outreach in line with the department s mission, vision, and values. This key leadership role requires an academic physician leader with strong clinical, business, and marketing acumen.

The Division Chief will lead the administrative, financial, research and clinical operations of the Division. In collaboration with the Chair of the Department, develop a comprehensive strategy and plan for the growth and development of the division s clinical, educational and research activities. Responsibilities also include the development of the Division s faculty with an emphasis on quality, compassionate patient care, and innovative research. The MFM Division Chief would also foster an environment of collaboration with our partner hospitals while executing the goals for the Women s and Infants program. The candidate will participate in comprehensive prenatal care for pregnancies complicated by maternal or fetal disease and diagnostic ultrasonography.

The Division of Maternal-Fetal Medicine & Ultrasound Genetics

The division of MFM and Ultrasound includes 16 faculty members, 7 fellows, and 1 nurse practitioner. We perform approximately 3,500 deliveries at Barnes Jewish Hospital, the main teaching facility at the WashU medical campus. Maternal-Fetal Medicine faculty staff labor and delivery and the antepartum unit have a robust consultative and full-MFM care outpatient practice. We have a state-of-the-art prenatal diagnosis facility that performs over 16,000 ultrasounds a year and is staffed by 16 OB-GYN specialty sonographers. We are an academically active division with fellow and resident teaching and multiple faculty members with broad academic interests including, clinical research, patient safety, and basic and translational research. We have many formal clinical and research collaborations with other departments at WashU including cardiology/cardio-obstetrics, critical care, and substance use/psychiatry to provide multidisciplinary cutting-edge care for the high-risk pregnant patients of our region.

Clinical Services and Locations

We primarily see patients for outpatient visits in two locations, the main medical school campus and at nearby Missouri Baptist Medical Center. Our practice also includes a specialized clinic for pregnancies affected by fetal anomalies, The Fetal Care Center. This Center collaborates with our colleagues at St. Louis Children s Hospital (SLCH). We have the full complement of support services, including genetic counseling, ultrasound, antepartum fetal testing services, and diabetes education available for all our patients. We provide genetic amniocentesis, CVS, cordocentesis, and first trimester aneuploidy screening and collaborate closely with SLCH neonatologists in our Level IV NICU.

Qualifications

Qualified candidates will have completed residency in an ACGME accredited Obstetrics and Gynecology training program and subspecialty training in an accredited MFM & Ultrasound Genetics fellowship program, with board certification in both Obstetrics and Gynecology and MFM & Ultrasound Genetics. Applicants should be at the rank of Associate Professor or above and should be innovative leaders with knowledge and experience in navigating complex academic medical institutions, health centers, and/or teaching hospitals coupled with administrative experience.
