Job Summary

Reporting to the Chief Finance & Administration Officer (CFAO)CFAO, the Grant Writer will support the fundraising and development activities of AIA and its entities in support of programs; including, but not limited to, AIAF activities,  the Center for Communities by Design, the Global Campus for Architecture and Design, other programs that support AIA and its entities; and understand the history, structure, objectives, programs, and financial needs of the organization.

 

Job Duties:

Development Duties 80%

  • Research and identify grant opportunities from government and non-government agencies.
  • Draft grant proposals and supporting documents based on the funding requirements of the organization.
  • Submit proposals to CFAO for approval.
  • Respond to internal and external queries on drafted and submitted proposals.
  • Work with CFAO, Sr. Manager, Business Operations, and the various program owners across the AIA and its entities to maintain positive relationships with fund providers and other stakeholders.
  • Maintain records and submit reports related to grant opportunities.

 

Operational Duties 20%

  • Assist CFAO and Sr. Manager, Business Operations on creating and managing various fundraising goals.
  • Assist in production of documents and reports, as needed, to brief program officers, committees, board, and various stakeholders.
  • Create and develop reports in database.
  • Integrate information into useful fundraising reports and prospect management tools.
  • Track grant requirements, phases, reporting and administration.
  • Responsible for maintaining required legal and accounting records and reports.

Qualifications

  • Demonstrated experience in proposal writing, grant writing, and grant reporting.
  • Experience interacting with a wide variety of clientele (executive leadership, staff, visitors, and donors).
  • Experience working with external partners.
  • Ability to meet deadlines, track, and monitor scheduling and planning activities.
  • Ability to work independently, exercise judgment, make reasoned decisions, and multi-task.
  • Comfortable in professional, fast-paced, nonprofit, and entrepreneurial environment.
  • Ability to work effectively in and foster a team environment to develop and maintain confidences.
  • Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint).
  • Knowledgeable of Code of Federal Regulations, 2 CFR Section 200 and its application to grant awards is a preferred.

Understanding of the federal, state, local, and private funding landscape.

 

Education

 

  • Bachelor’s degree plus 3-5 years of nonprofit development and grant writing experience
  • Interest in community engagement, architecture/design a plus

CT, DC, MD, VA, AR, DE, FL, GA, ID, IL, IA, KS, KY, ME, MI, MN, MT, NH, NM, NY, NC, OK,

PA, SC, SD, TN, UT, VT, WI, WY. This position will periodically be required to be on-site at th

AIA Headquarters in Washington, DC at the completion of the renovation in Spring 2025.
