ChristianaCare is currently seeking three full-time PCT II/Unit Clerk in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at our Newark Campus.

Full Time Flex Day/Evening 72 hours bi-weekly with every other weekend and rotating holidays required. - Shifts will be a mix of 8 and12 hours: Day/Eve Shift: 7a-7:30p, 7a-3:30p or 3p-11:30p

Primary Functions:

The Patient Care Technician II (PCTII) support activities under the direction and supervision of the Registered Nurse (RN) with an expectation to support the organizations patient safety goals and initiatives. The PCT II position requires the execution of clerical duties to help support the nursing staff and patients. This role will provide primary administrative support to family members of Patients in the NICU. Patient care will include limited bedside care with infants and adult patients. Including feeding, vitals, cleaning equipment and beds, diaper changes, bathing, assist with circumcisions, postpartum care, ambulate, visitor identification process, teaching scrub in for infection prevention and 50%-unit desk clerk coverage.

Principal duties and responsibilities:

Demonstrates skills and knowledge vital to deliver care appropriate to patients in various stages of development.

Performs assigned nursing duties for the comfort and well-being of patients and family members.

Responds to patient crisis and initiates interventions within the scope of responsibilities and notifies RN.

Job duties include, Responds with promptness, compassion, and interest to needs of patients and family members.

Order entry into Meditech

Communicates to patients, employees, and physicians using courteous verbal and written communication skills.

Demonstrates proficiency using required computer skills to document in the electronic medical record.

Performs Unit Clerk duties such as, answering phones, entering charges, calling provider consults, setting up patient transportation, assisting staff with clerical needs and audits and coordinates maintenance of unit supplies.

Completes required in-service education.

Performs assigned work safely, adhering to established departmental safety rules and practices; reports to supervisor, in a timely manner, any unsafe activities, conditions, hazards, or safety violations that may cause injury to oneself, other employees, patients, and visitors.

Performs other related duties as required.

Daily contact with patients, family members, visitors, employees, medical staff, volunteers, and students.

Nurse Manager. Assistant Nurse Manager. Receives direction from RN.

Education and experience requirements:

High school graduate or equivalent AND one or more of the below qualifications:

  • Previous patient care experience preferred.
  • Unit Clerk Experience preferred.
  • Nursing student who has successfully completed clinical hours or completion of a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) program.
  • Acceptance into a Christiana Care approved Patient Care Technician training program.

Knowledge, skill, and ability requirements:

  • Knowledge of basic nursing care provided for specific patient population of unit.
  • Knowledge of department standards, selected procedures, nursing practice guidelines and procedures.
  • Ability to acquire information to identify patient needs and to deliver care as needed.
  • Ability to work quickly and thoroughly.
  • Ability to recognize changes in patient status, take appropriate action and advise RN
  • Ability to perform basic math skills.
  • Ability to use appropriate safety measures for patients, employees and self.
  • Ability to follow universal precautions at all times.
  • Ability to exercise judgment, tact and diplomacy.
  • Ability to respond to patient crisis situations under the direction of the RN, following ChristianaCare protocol.
  • Ability to show strength in basic computer skills.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

BLS Certification required.

Physical demands:

Ability to stand, walk, sit, bend, lift, push, pull, carry, reach, twist, handle, stoop, climb as per unit based Physical Demand Checklist.

Working conditions:

Frequent exposure to biological elements with occasional exposure to chemical and environmental elements, as per unit based Physical Demands Checklist.
