Required Skills/Knowledge
The Registered Nurse licensed in the District of Columbia will successfully complete hospital and nursing orientation at Children’s National.
Effective verbal and written communication skills to include grant writing, publications and professional presentations.

Evidence of previous experience with workforce - related experience funded research. 
Ability to develop and oversee evidence-based practice/performance improvement/research/grant projects and budgets.
Eligible for graduate faculty appointment at George Washington University and/or other area universities.
Expertise in conducting one or more of the following - performance improvement, research, research utilization and knowledge development activities.
Knowledgeable about health care trends and research priorities/directions at the national, regional and local level.

Required Licenses and Certifications
Registered Nurse in District of Columbia .

Functional Accountabilities
Leadership

  • Provide leadership for the use of research findings as an integral component of decision-making in clinical practice, quality and management.
  • Provide ongoing education, consultation and mentorship for evidence-based practice, research and nursing quality initiatives; include project development, implementation, evaluation and dissemination throughout the organization.
  • Provides peer review of Department of Nursing Research staff and others as indicated
  • Participates on Children’s National administrative committees as needed
  • Recommends changes to support operational goals and financial targets
  • Advance the science of nursing quality through application of research principles to the implementation, evaluation and dissemination of nursing quality activities at Children’s National.

Research

  • Design & conduct research and evaluation studies that are relevant to pediatric nursing and the health care of children and families; maintain an active, vibrant research prgram, identify sources of funding for research and projects, formulate and submit successful applications for research/project funding, develop and direct grant/project budgets, train and evaluate research project personnel, and collaborate with Director to manage use of research personnel.
  • Disseminate research findings via publications and presentations.
  • Translate research findings to bedside practice and participate to evaluate the outcomes.
  • Develop collaborative research partnerships within Children’s National, locally , regionally , and nationally .
  • Promote research throughout the organization trough education and mentorship.

Academic Excellence

  • Promote a spirit of inquiry and scholarship within Nursing and Patient Care Services and Children’s National.
  • Role model the value of research, evidence based practice and quality in the practice environment.
  • Precept graduate students to conduct research studies and projects in the clinical setting.
  • Present and publish research findings in local, state, national and international venues.
  • Participate in and support professional organizations at the local, regional and national level.

Research Integrity and Regulation Compliance

  • Conduct peer review of hospital-based nursing research proposals.
  • Maintain knowledge of federal, state and local regulations pertaining to research including those of Children’s National Institutional Review Boards.
  • Ensure all research proposals follow the appropriate review approval processes prior to implementation.
  • Ensure the ethical conduct of research including protection of research participants in all studies conducted by Nursing and Patient Care Services.
  • Uphold current policies and procedures for Nursing Research, Evidence-Based Practice, and Nursing Quality.
  • Oversee staff in the preparation of required documents for the conduct of nursing research.

Consultant

  • Conduct programs relative to the researcher’s area of specialty for other departments as necessary .
  • Is recognized and called upon as an expert resource to support patient care at Children’s National; provide expertise in support of
  • organizational initiatives.
  • Act as a resource to affiliated organizations on behalf of Children’s National.
