Working at our Beavercreek Site:

GE Aerospace operations have been part of the Beavercreek community for over 70 years Our Beavercreek facility manufactures gas turbine tubes, ducts, and manifolds, and also has complex machining, fabrication and investment casting capabilities. Product engineering, new product development and testing is performed on site. This facility also does repair and overhaul of tubes, ducts, and manifolds. We have been awarded OSHAS’s highest safety rating. 

Role Overview:

Builds fixtures, dies and miscellaneous tooling complete from prints utilizing all toolroom equipment including mills, drill presses, jig bores, grinders, manual lathes and utilize CNC equipment to fullest advantage which includes CNC mills and lathes.

  • Ability to read basic tool room hand tools (Micrometers, calipers and a scale)
  • Strong experience with operating a manual mill, manual lathe, cut off saw, band saw and drill press.
  • Prior experience operating CNC Equipment or willingness to be trained.
  • Must be willing to perform within a teaming environment.
  • Must be willing to learn and follow all safety and EHS guidelines.
  • Must have basic blueprint reading skills, and basic math skills.
  • Must be able to follow verbal and written and directions from peers and operations leaders.
  • Must be able to maintain high quality work while finishing jobs in a timely manner.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and resolve tooling problems.
  • Must be able to repair existing tooling and rework tooling to print specification and tolerances.
  • Must be able to run the manual lathe using all processes including turning, boring, OD and ID threading, while holding precise tolerances.
  • Ability to work with the design and engineering teams to help identify and troubleshoot possible machining issues and processes.
  • Minimum of four (4-6) years’ experience in tool making.
  • Ability to work with engineered drawings, hand drawn sketches and verbal instructions with limited and or minimal supervision.
  • Must be able to multi-task and process multiple jobs concurrently.
  • Ability to use shop floor computer to locate fixtures, request fixtures, open and close jobs, and complete any EHS training requirements.
  • Ability to make own set-ups on manual Bridgeport and lathes along with the ability to use sine bars, sine plates, dividing heads, height gages and indicators.

The Ideal Candidate:

Must be creative and have ability to concept tooling and tooling needs and be able to build tooling from concept only. A primary objective will be to identify and implement Lean Manufacturing opportunities within manufacturing cells to reduce manufacturing costs, set up times and improve product flow.  Must be able to repair existing tooling and rework tooling to print specifications and tolerances. Must be able to troubleshoot and resolve tooling problems. Must be able to read, comprehend and apply information from specifications, drawing, procedures and other quality documentation.  Ability to read and comprehend necessary forms. Have the ability to effectively communicate and respond to questions from team members, coaches and leaders.

Required Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or General Education Degree (GED)
  • 4-years minimum Tool and Die related experience and/or accredited Tool & Die certificate (I.E. Step II or Joint Vocational School); or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Additional Information:

  • Wages $25.12 - 38.22 per hour based on experience
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee must be able to stand at least 6 to 8 hours a day.
  • Must be able to work with upper body extremities.
  • Must be able to walk, sit, or stoop on a regular basis.
  • Must be able to lift and/or move up to 40 pounds on occasion. Items more than 40 pounds will be lifted with assistance.
