Job Summary and Qualifications

This Job Description for the Staff RN in Day Surgery and Infusion Center provides criteria for evaluation of the Registered Nurse working in the Staff RN position. The Staff RN assigned to Day Surgery cares for pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients. The Staff RN assigned to the Infusion Center cares for adolescents, adult and geriatric patients.

What you will do in this role: 

  • Responsible for assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating care for patients admitted for surgical or diagnostic procedures in the Day Surgery Unit. This includes gathering history information, performing physical assessments, reconciling medication throughout the patient’s length of stay.
  • Responsible for meeting the Standards of Practice and managing all assigned personnel, supplies, and equipment of assigned unit.
  • Participates in activities to plan, measure, assess, and improve the quality of patient care.
  • Responsible for pre and postoperative care of surgery patient in all surgical specialties.
  • Assists the physician with procedures on the Day Surgery Unit including: Bone Marrows and Lumbar Punctures.
  • Carries out or assists ancillary services with diagnostic procedures such as Cortisone Stimulation Testing, Tensilon testing, or Therapeutic Phlebotomy Prepares patients for special procedures in Interventional Radiology .
  • Administers intravenous infusions and injections, based on doctor orders, on selected patients including but not limited to: antibiotics, iron infusions, steroids, Remicade, blood and blood products, Rhogam, Procrit, and Neupogen.
  • Responsible for patient/family education throughout the Day Surgery and Infusion Center stay.
  • Assumes the responsibility of charging the department, as needed.
  • Supports the mission, goals, and objectives of the hospital.
  • Responsible for orientation of new personnel as delegated by the Assistant Nurse Manager, Nurse Manager, or Director.
  • Maintains clinical knowledge of Core Measure requirements inherent to position. Documents patient assessment, patient education, and patient care activities in the medical record by using terminology that complies with the current Core Measure data definition version. Communicates in a timely manner with other clinicians to achieve Core Measure compliance.

What qualifications you will need:
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Spt must be obtained within 60 months of employment start date
  • Basic Cardiac Life Support must be obtained within 30 days of employment start date
  • PALS Pediatric Adv Life Supt must be obtained within 60 months of employment start dat
  • 2 - 3 years Medical/Surgical, PACU, or Outpatient setting experience preferred.
  • Registered Nurse
  • Associate Degree, B.S. Nursing preferred
