Job Summary and QualificationsUnder limited direction, supervise different areas of the section activities and personnel. Assist Lab Manager and Lab Director to achieve the goals of quality patient care, quality assurance, and cost effectiveness. Provide guidance to the Lead and technologists as needed.
What will you do in this role:
- Responsible for day-to-day supervision or oversight of different area of the section operation and personnel performing testing and reporting test results.
- Responsible for monitoring test analyses and specimen examinations to ensure that acceptable levels of analytic performance are maintained.
- Maintain policies and procedures and keep team members informed regarding changes.
- Assists Lab Manager and Lab Director with interviewing, selecting, evaluating, counselling, motivating, disciplining, and recommending termination of laboratory employees as deemed necessary.
- Ensures that each staff member receives regular training and in-service training for the type and complexity of the laboratory services they provide.
- Performs Initial Employment Period (IEP) and annual evaluations.
- Helps evaluates and documents the performance assessment of personnel semiannually during the first year. Thereafter, personnel assessment must be performed annually.
- Daily review worksheets and instrument print-outs from previous work-shift.
- Ensures appropriate scheduling of staff for most efficient coverage.
- Helps calculate and analyze workload regularly to project future staff requirements.
- Oversees preventive maintenance and repair of instrumentation.
What Qualifications you will need:
- Must be currently registered as a Medical Laboratory Scientist or Medical Technologist by ASCP.
- BS in Medical Technology or Baccalaureate degree plus completion of a NAACLS accredited Medical Technology program.
- Hospital laboratory experience preferred.
