Unit Description:

Sodexo School Services is currently seeking a Culinary Instructor for a prestigious culinary skills center serving the Seattle Metro area.   The ideal candidate will have strong planning and communication skills.  It is essential that you have culinary curriculum experience and are self motivated.  This location also operates a cafe where students learn basic restaurant management skills.  It takes an individual with attention to detail and the ability to multitask to allow all programs to excel. This is a high profile position which requires a passion for food and teaching.  

 

Key areas include: Safety, purchasing, equipment and supplies, food preparation, cooking, desserts, sanitation, food and physical safety, etc.  Performance expectations include but are not limited to: Meets and instructs the students, develops and maintains the physical environment of the classroom and lab that is conducive to effective learning within the limits of resources provided.  Prepares for classes assigned and shows evidence of preparation upon request of immediate supervisor; Integrates the use of technology and academic skills in the development of technical skills;  Encourages students to set and maintain high standards, teaches the importance of employability and leadership skills in the curriculum.  The Culinary Instructor will also act as a Liaison on behalf of all Sodexo managed culinary skill centers in the state of Washington to ensure culinary curriculum meets required components for students.

 

Instructional Skills: Demonstrates mastery of content area; Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials and facilities. Documents and submits student progress, grades, attendance and completion of competencies following policies and practices; Maintains and upholds school policies and procedures; Maintains records as required by law, system policy and administrative regulations. Assists in upholding and enforcing school rules and administrative regulations; Makes provision for being available to students and parents for education-related purposes within contractual commitments; Attends and participates in faculty and department meetings; Assists in the selection of books, equipment. and other instructional material; Works to establish and maintain open lines of communication with students, parents and colleagues concerning both the academic and behavioral progress of all students; Establishes and maintains cooperative professional relations with others; Assists students in the development of student portfolios; Performs related duties as assigned by the administration in accordance with the school/system policies and practices.

 

Thorough knowledge of managing a culinary arts lab/curriculum required. Thorough knowledge of instructional methods and presentation strategies for student learners is necessary. Ability to create a classroom/laboratory environment that fosters mutual respect with students and a positive learning climate.  Communication skills appropriate for interaction with fellow teachers, assistant teachers, school staff, parents and the community.

 

Teaching certification for the state of Washington strongly desired.  This certification can also be obtained while in the teaching role.

 

This is a semester-run program with a Monday-Friday work schedule of 7 am – 4 pm.  Possibility of a summer sessions if approved by state.

Qualifications & Requirements:

Basic Education Requirement - High School Diploma or GED or equivalent
Basic Management Experience - 1 year
