Overview:

The Quality Engineer will play a pivotal role in improving process capability, working closely with Manufacturing, Materials, and Engineering teams to ensure our products meet the highest quality standards. This role involves providing technical guidance, driving root cause analysis, and implementing corrective actions to support daily production activities. The Quality Engineer will also be responsible for developing and managing quality plans, coordinating technical requirements, and ensuring compliance with both military and contractual obligations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Process Improvement: Lead initiatives to enhance manufacturing process capability through variation reduction, error-proofing, and the implementation of statistical process control.
  • Data Analysis: Collect, analyze, and report quality data to identify and prioritize areas for improvement in product and process quality.
  • Problem Solving: Provide leadership in root cause analysis and the development of corrective and preventive action plans using problem-solving tools like 5-Whys, FMEA, 8-D, and Pareto analysis.
  • New Product Introduction: Act as the key quality representative on new product introduction teams, responsible for contract review and ensuring design-for-quality principles are applied.
  • Supplier Quality: Manage supplier quality, including article inspections from suppliers, and support supplier quality development initiatives.
  • Audits and Certifications: Conduct and participate in quality system, process, and product audits. Support product/process certifications and approvals, ensuring compliance with all relevant standards.
  • Documentation and ERP Management: Utilize ERP systems for documentation and ensure all quality plans, control plans, and reports are accurately maintained and accessible.
  • Lean and Six Sigma: Apply Lean manufacturing practices and Six Sigma tools to drive continuous improvement and variation reduction in manufacturing processes.
  • Inspection and Metrology: Provide technical leadership to inspection teams, ensuring the proper application of inspection metrology and automated measuring equipment.

Required Qualifications:

  • Experience: A minimum of 2-5 years of experience in a quality-related field within a machining environment, with a strong focus on Supplier Quality Development, PPAP, Control Plans, and FMEA’s. Alternatively, candidates with 10+ years of progressive quality engineering experience will also be considered, particularly those with an inspection background and the ability to perform at this level.
  • Education: BS in Engineering is required; however, candidates with significant work experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
  • Technical Expertise: Proficiency in statistical quality assurance methods, geometric dimensioning and tolerancing, inspection metrology, and automated measuring equipment. Familiarity with ERP systems is crucial.
  • Problem Solving: Strong problem-solving skills with experience in continuous improvement and the application of Lean and Six Sigma methodologies.
  • Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to create and present detailed reports and audits.
  • Software Proficiency: Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio, and Project, along with other relevant tools.
  • Citizenship: U.S. Citizenship is required due to project-specific regulations.
