The Pharmacy Supervisor assumes responsibility for the functioning of the Department in the absence of the Director of Pharmacy. This role participates with other members of the healthcare team in helping patients of all ages achieve positive clinical outcomes. This role performs effectively in the role of a staff pharmacist when required. The Pharmacy Supervisor understands the rules and regulations of pharmacy and supports the adherence to those rules and regulations throughout the department. The Pharmacy Supervisor is a resource to other pharmacy staff members and appropriately resolves or escalates employee concerns.$153k to $173k
RESPONSIBILITIES AND TASKS
Leadership
• Provides staff and hospital education regarding pharmaceutical care and medication management.
• Monitors and interprets data including pharmaceutical usage, medication costs, and patient outcomes. Targets improvement opportunities and implements and monitors improvements.
• Understands sourcing of pharmaceuticals and pharmacy supplies and procures medications and supplies from most cost effective source.
• Monitors processes such as scheduling, staffing, medication management, clinical programs, protocols, communications, and procurement, and pharmaceutical waste.
• Supports corporate compliance programs and reports questionable situations, concerns, and complaints immediately.
• Communicates effectively with the Director of pharmacy regarding departmental issues and needs.
Computer proficiency
• Uses the Electronic Health Record efficiently to perform clinical and operational pharmacy tasks.
• Uses Microsoft Word and Excel to prepare basic documents and analysis.
Compounding/Dispensing/Restocking Medication
• Safely performs non-sterile compounding within hospital policy and regulatory parameters.
• Prepares or coordinates the provision of IV sterile compounded products within hospital policy and regulatory parameters.
• Supports medication availability through timely completion and/or supervision of automated dispensing cabinet restock process.
• Documents or supervises documentation related to dispensing, compounding, and restocking including temp logs, inspection logs, unit dosing logs, etc.
• Goes to floors and restocks automated dispensing machines or narcotic cabinets.
• Orders medications and manages pharmacy inventory effectively.
• Correctly classifies pharmaceutical waste and ensures proper waste process.
Clinical Activities
• Evaluates all patient demographic and medication related parameters when verifying medication orders.
• Researches and provides an appropriate response to a drug information questions.
• Completes pharmacy clinical tasks as defined by hospital process.
• Participates in scheduled interdisciplinary activities.
• Reports medication events including when identified.
• Contacts medical staff when medication concerns or risks are identified.
Other Clinical or Non-distributive Activities
• Handles all pharmaceutical generated protected health information in a manner consistent with the privacy rule as outlined in HIPPAA.
• Participates in medication reconciliation as defined by hospital process.
• Provides education to patients about their medication regimen.
Qualifications
License or Certification:
• Licensed in good standing by the State Pharmacy Board for the State in which the hospital is located.
Minimum Qualifications:
• Successful completion of a degree from an accredited pharmacy program or one that is determined to be substantially equivalent to a U.S. accredited program by an appropriate certifying agency preferred.
• Minimum 1 year of supervisory experience.
