Fiber Optics Engineer

New London County, United States General Dynamics Electric Boat Full time
Overview

The Fiber Optic team is responsible for the design, development, qualification, integration, and testing of the Fiber Optic Cable System (FOCS) on TRIDENT, VIRGINIA and COLUMBIA Class submarines. In addition to owning the 'whole boat' fiber optic backbone on modern submarines, the fiber optic team is also Electric Boat's Fiber Optic Center of Excellence providing general fiber optic support across the board.

The Fiber Optic team requires engineers to be proficient in multitasking, communication and problem solving. This position will require for the engineer to perform technology investigations, write white papers, track network connectivity in the form of Government Furnished Information (GFI) and Contractor Furnished Information (CFI), resolve construction issues, identify/manage risks, identify opportunities for cost reduction, track/evaluate requirements, and manage various projects.

The candidate for this position will also be required to interface with NAVSEA, government vendors and various other Electric Boat departments on a daily basis.
