Job Summary and Qualifications

The Registered Nurse demonstrates critical thinking skills, scientific judgment, and leadership in planning for the care of a patient. The Registered Nurse is responsible and accountable for the planning, directing and provision of nursing care to patients in accordance with the NH Nurse Practice Act, recognized nursing techniques, and both clinical and administrative policies

SPECIFIC ELEMENTS & ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

1. Demonstrates ability to perform Phase I recovery

2. Demonstrates ability to perform Phase II recovery

3. Demonstrates ability to provide critical care nursing including hemodynamic monitoring, use of monitors, pumps, and ventilators as well as correctly administering medications

4. Performs assessment/re-assessment in accordance with unit standards and/or patient condition.

5. Demonstrates ability to intervene when patient condition warrants, per department protocol.

6. Demonstrates “critical thinking” skills, in our acutely ill pediatric and adult patient, per unit protocol.

7. Provides for the privacy of patients/family.

8. Verbalizes the process for referral when ethical dilemmas arise.

9. Identifies cultural/religious needs, language barriers, developmental, and educational needs, etc. and modifies plan of care as necessary to accommodate these needs.

10. Based on assessment, plans and implements care appropriately including the patient/family/significant other whenever possible

11. Utilizes ancillary services appropriately

12. Assesses and monitors patient for seclusion and restraint in accordance with hospital policy.

13. Demonstrates willingness to and actively does offer assistance to colleagues both within and outside own unit.

14. Implements discharge plan in timely manner, in collaboration with other health team members

15. Successfully assumes resource nurse responsibility: assigns work considering individual staff abilities, patient needs including changes in acuity level; coordinates unit activities; anticipates staffing requirements and delegates appropriately.

16. Adheres to unit/hospital standards for documenting patient care

17. Demonstrates knowledge of procedures including set up, patient care, specimen collection and handling, documentation, and proper utilization and care of all equipment needed. Performs all other duties as assigned.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
    • Associate's Degree in Nursing.
    • Licensed as a Registered Nurse in the State of NH or valid compact state.
    • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification within 30 days of hire
    • ACLS within 90 days of hire
    • PALS within 90 days of hire
