Cost Accountant
Pay Range:  $30-$45/hr 
Hours: M-F 8a-5p

Location: Wahpeton, ND 
3-6 Month Assignment 

Position Overview:

We are seeking a skilled Cost Accountant to join our team. This role involves a variety of accounting functions including inventory management, labor hour maintenance, cost accounting, and month-end close responsibilities. The ideal candidate will have a background in manufacturing and a strong understanding of financial reporting and analysis.

Primary Objectives of the Position:

  • Perform accounting functions related to inventory, labor hours, cost accounting, and month-end close.

Major Areas of Accountability:

  1. Prepare monthly financial statements and supporting schedules.
  2. Support the monthly close process.
  3. Assess monthly inventory, COGS, and variance analysis.
  4. Maintain perpetual inventory and monitor cycle counts.
  5. Manage and maintain the standard cost system.
  6. Prepare cost quoting for new product sales.
  7. Manage general insurances.
  8. Review and resolve inaccuracies in daily reporting.
  9. Analyze the cost accounting structure for quality management decisions.
  10. Prepare monthly scorecard data and ratios for management.
  11. Supervise accounts receivable, accounts payable, and general accounting.
  12. Establish and maintain internal controls.
  13. Assist with the budgeting and projection process.
  14. Serve as a liaison to external auditors.
  15. Perform other related duties as assigned by management.

Qualifications for Entry:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or a related field; CPA or CMA preferred.
  • Relevant work experience in a manufacturing environment.

Requirements for Effective Performance:

  • Ability to assist the Controller with system and reporting improvements.
  • Competence in reporting financial analysis to the Controller.
  • Strong partnership skills with internal customers (e.g., operations) for accurate reporting.
  • Related experience in cost accounting and finance.
  • Technical skills in account reconciliation, cost analysis, and month-end close.
  • Excellent planning and project management abilities.
  • Strong interest in system operations with a focus on data validity and quality.
  • Attention to detail and strong problem-solving capabilities.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in high-performance teams and contribute as a team player.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and ERP systems.
  • Background check with Credit and Drug Screen Required
